Hibernation in Win XP

Probably a simple/daft question but exactly how do you use Hibernation in XP ?

I run 2000 Pro, have the Hibernation mode enabled within Advanced Power Options. All fine and dandy and allows a fast startup.

Done the same on an XP machine (I'm not totally au fait with XP), but on selecting Shutdown, there appears to be no Hibernate option.

In 2000 Pro you get a drop down menu. On the XP machine I only get Icons for Restart Turn Off and Log Off.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I feel sure I am missing something very simple.

Hold the shift button and then the option to hibernate should appear instead of the standby button.

you should find an option in control panel - power options, hibernation, and a tick box to enable.

I believe you have to set aside approximately the same amount of hard disc space as you have RAM to enable hibernation. Bare this in mind if you need to free up some space on the hard drive.
If you right click on the desktop, then click on properties, then click on screen saver, then power, then select the hibernate tab it will show you how much space you require to hibernate.
