Adaware updates of late

Dear chaps/chapesses,

I was wondering if anyone else has raised an eyebrow or two at the lack of updates of late with ADAWARE?

SE1R28 last 'signature' 16 Feb 2005 Core 1.05 Personal.

I know it's free, and they obviously want you to buy the Pro version!

Cheers

I normally check every couple of days and agree that this is by far the longest wait for an update...my system has even started asking me if I want to check.

flynverted 5th Mar 2005 14:56

Mine hasn't had an available update in 18 days.
I don't like to download or even promote anything from Microsoft, but I was talked into downloading MS antispyware yesterday. It's easy to use and found tons of stuff adaware missed. You can get it here:

Just to confuse the issue!

Hmm, just updating Spybot with latest pattern files and running a full scan to see how it agrees with what M$ has found.

Result
Interestingly it only found 1 tracking cookie so no great mismatch.

Just downloaded and run the MS vesion of this spyware.
It did find 7 items that Adaware S/E missed.
I also found that recently Adaware would not download any updates.
Some sort of error message appeared.
Was really happy that I was running a legal copy of Windows XP.
As it asked for Validation.
I can say that about 90% of KSA has the illegal 4. usd pirated version.
I bought the legal one on a recent trip to the USA.
If they made this a little less expensive then most would go for the legal version.
But at 189.00 usd I doubt many could afford or would try.

Hmmm

Hello chaps,

I installed and ran the MS Anti-Spyware (Beta) software.
No probs. Nice looking screens and front-end; but it detected not one thing!

I ran my Ad-Aware right after the MS 'thing' and Ad-Aware had no trouble picking up 11 "trackers".

I therefore give MS 1 out of 10 for trying. I looks good but does bugger all as far as I can tell.

I downloaded and installed the last update sometime last week, so it been available since about a week ago.

P.Pilcher 6th Mar 2005 11:45

Well, following the comments earlier on this thread, I also downloaded the windoze software. It found one bit of spyware that my Adaware SE hadn't found. What annoyed me is that I paid for my Adaware SE to get Adwatch which I have been very impressed with so far.

I was pleased to note that Microsoft considered my XP pro legal (which it is) and having downloaded the software, copied it onto the other computers on my little network (also using legal copies of XP) and successfuly installed it on them.

I have now at last obtained the latest Adaware update which, on running a scan showed that adwatch had successfully kept all Adaware's list of nasties out of my computer.

I suppose it will be back to this and Spybot when Bill starts charging for his antispyware stuff

P.P.

Many thanks

Many thanks Background Noise for the links about this MS anti-spyware software - I have read them all and now know more about the issue.

Belts and braces comes to mind!

Editted above while you were posting so copied down to here to make more sense:

You don't need to validate windows to download - just tick 'do not validate at this time' and continue.

Just run scans with fully up to date versions of:

Adaware (same update problem until today) - found nothing

Spybot - found nothing

MS Antispyware - found navexcel and exact.bargainbuddy

However don't like the load at startup and TSR nature of MS (unloaded it from startup with msconfig), the way it tries to force auto updates despite selecting no autoupdates at setup and it reported being up to date at install at 5687 but manually downloaded up to 5695.
