Lost girl in tsunami

I have received an email with a photo attached claiming to be from someone trying to find the identity of a young girl lost during the Asian tsunami.

It is one of those "send to everyone you know" type.

Anyone know if it is genuine or just a waste of bandwidth.

Waste of bandwidth definitely - it's been round the houses and back.

Snopes.com is a good place to check this sort of thing:

In general, you should never "forward to everyone you know". 99% of the time it's a waste of time, bandwidth, etc. I'm still waiting for the 1% that isn't.

Those are exactly my two rules of thumb:-
  1. If it says "you must forward this to everyone you know", it's total crap.
  2. If it just, just, might not be total crap, a little research on Snopes is in order before pushing the forward button.
