Help with DVD Decrypter / DVD Shrink 3.2

I know there has been recent topics about these programmes, but i've come to the burning process on both programmes and i'm looking for help.

I initially used DVD Shrink, everything was fine until burning. The system spat out the DVD/-R and insisted on a DVD/RW. Is there any way to change the properties to allow the programme to burn on to a DVD/-R?

After that I tried DVD Decrypter. Everything again went fine until this error occured:

I/O Error!

Device [1:0:0] DVD+RW DW-P54 1.8c (D: ) (ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

Sense Area: 70 00 05.....(these number continue on for some time)
Interpretation: Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format

When it comes to computers, i'm still an amatuer. This is my first travelling laptop, and i'd love to get it set up right from the beginning.

Any Help would be greatly Appreciated.

Many Thanks,

S.C. :ok:

I've never used DVD shrink, so don't know about that, I prefer dvd2one.

It sounds like the dvd-r you are using is not recognised by your writer. You will need to check the manufacturers website for a compatability list, you may need to do a firmware update to get it to recognise the disks you are using. Just because it is a dvd-r doesn't necessarily mean your drive can recognise it I'm afraid.

Are you sure the drive accepts DVD-R, and not just DVD+R?

Sky_Captain 19th Dec 2004 07:42

Excuse the ignorance spannersatcx, still an amaueur at this, but how does one accomplish a firmware update? If it will solve the problem i'm wiling to try anything. Thanks again for the advice.

stickyb, positive my drive accepts both DVD/RW and DVD/-R.

S.C. :)

SC, it wasn't the RW i was querying, it was the distinction between DVD-R and DVD+R. Does your drive handle both formats?

All DVD discs should be lablled DVD+R (DVD+RW) or DVD-R (DVD-RW)

Some drives only accept one format, some handle both

Before going down the firmware route, I would suggest having a look at what media is compatible with your drive. Have a look at the manufacturers (of the drive/laptop) and see what media it recommends. I tried several different makes of media before I was happy with it. Most commonly compatible type is ritek, these can come in different guises, datawrite being one of them. Without trying to be rude, but sometimes the really cheap ones are not that good.

Sky_Captain,

I would first start with DVD+R Media first since is the winning standard at the moment.

Thanks everybody for the replies :ok:

Like the clever person I am, I have just come to the realisation that the drive is only intended for DVD+R, and the DVDs I have been trying are -R, what a  idiot I am for the simple mistake:=

stickyb, thanks for pointing out my mistake to me, sometimes the obvious answer is the one staring you in the face, shame I couldn't see it.

spannersatcx, as regards the firmware route, there seems to be no updates for this Sony DVD+RW DW-P54A. But I will look in to the manufacturers recommendations. I presume I should be able to find that on a Sony website somewhere? I'll also have a look at the ritek ones you mentioned:)

Richard, thankfully mine is the winning standard, just wish I didn't spend the money on the wrong type of blanks! NAC aye, man I havn't been there for a fly in visit since about 2000. Was it your place that had that nice sea-food place on the beach or was it in Venice. Just remember the nice food and great view from Sharky's

Naples Air Center, Inc. 20th Dec 2004 16:51

Sky_Captain,

Sharky's is in Venice and it is still a very popular destinations for our hour builders to catch a bite to eat.

It is time for you to come back to enjoy Paradise. It has been too long. ;)

Take Care,

Richard

Sky_Captain,

If you hit The Strip, do not gamble away the airline tickets. ;)

Sky_Captain,

Give Mrs. Sky_Captain the option for whatever she wants to do on this holiday and you might just end up here:

Brilliant :)

Believe it or not, we were choosing only between 2 ships to travel on, either the Cunard QM2, or one of the Carnival Cruise Ships. Think that might just sway my verdict a little. ;)

Take Care Richard,

Happy Christmas,

S.C. :D

You too Sky_Captain.
