Broadband at 3Mbps (in UK)

Telewest/Blueyonder have announced a 3Mbps broadband service but better still they are upgrading "normal" 512k users to 768k at NO EXTRA COST! Also, 1Mb becomes 1.5Mb, 2Mb becomes 3Mb, again FOC. ETA sometime end of May.

How's that for a deal/keeping your customers happy etc..?

Story here

And yet they consider a 5 hour outage to me last week as 'normal maintenance'.

LL (aka Sparky!),

Better than one of my customers recently - called me to cancel an appointment as her BT broadband wasn't working.

"No problem said BT "an engineer is on his way and will be there on Saturday". This was Wednesday. To add insult to injury they'd known about that problem since the Monday previous. BT said the up to seven day turn-around for fixes was "normal".

Got 2 mbps at work - stupidly fast when downloading files, but little real difference when web browsing - ebay almost the same as on dial up (although I dont suppose I really should be on ebay at work..:E )

AMOFW,

Thanks for that - I'm with Telewest :D :ok:

6Mb is now the common norm out here in HK. Goes impressively fast on speed tests, and on file downloading if you can find someone with a fast enough server!

They are also offering TV over broadband now - quite a lot of channels and choice.

6Mbps? Impressive, but not as impressive as Japan's 26Mbps ! (and I won't mention that Korea was talking about building a 54Mbps system!).

But then again, like you say stickyb, it's all relative to the server on the other side...

Hi Charles,
Read the link to the Beeb story with great interest.

Just curious - how did you find out about it ?

Personally, no knowledge at Telewest when one calls their Customer Service. Puzzling to me.

I doubt if their infrastructure would be able to support it. They are very cagey about contention ratios when you ask them.

No doubt there will some small print etc. !

Cheers

PS. I owe u an Email re. FTP etc

Hi LL34,

it's on their website too. But I first about from the beep - technology page of their news site.

Cheers
Charles
