GPS 196 on the road

I have been searching everywhere for this piece of info, no luck.

Can anyone tell me whether I will need a a data card on my 196 to upload MapSource data for use on the road?

Thanks.

The 196 comes with a small data card, about 8meg, from memory. This is enough to get a couple of counties on.

Get 64meg+ to load half the UK or 128meg for the whole country.

When using it in the road, it navigates on its inbuilt low res map, so it will some times get "temporarily unsure of position" even though it is showing exactly which road you are on. This is because the low res maps are slightly topographical and don't follow the exact lines of the real road.

"Set lock to road" on for quicker navigation processing.

I saw the 296 yesterday. The best bit of kit since... er the 196 ;)

Thanks for your reply!

yes that looks like one hell of a GPS!
How was the illumination on the screen?

And are all the features exactly same as the 196 (but with colour) ? ...I know it has land relief details which the 196 does not have...Can you choose between all the screen layouts on the 296 the 196 has?

Thanks :ok:
