Thanks Mishandled - I guess Apple make more out of the accessories than the unit itself!! Does anyone know of a decent pair of headphones. The earbuds are ok, but would prefer some over the ear, travel headphones.

Richard- you seem to be the guru for technical gizmos.

PS The Apple battery replacement service is about 80 quid- ouch!

If you want earbud type ones

These are great

but for great sounding folding travel headphones try these

Sennheiser

or if you can get to japan the Sony MDR-D66SL Pro Eggos are brilliant and look good too.

Headphones - can't go wrong with the Bose Noise Cancelling set. Expensive, yes. I've yet to meet anyone who would gladly return theirs (waits for the flames) and IMHO a must for using your new toy as SLF.

I also agree that the iTrip is well worth having, especially if you need to hire cars or just want to take your CD collection on the move. A tip: it's hard to adjust any ipod settings whilst driving, and may be classed as careless driving if you get caught, so setup a long playlist before you set off. Also, the iTrip is a little bit in contravention of the wireless telegraphy act in the UK, though chances of detetction & prosecution are low.

If you don't get an iTrip, you may still want to consider some form of car charger to top the battery up on the road.

I use Bang & Olufsen A8 earphones with my iPod mini. A little stange to get used to at first but after you do you can have them on for hours and you dont know it. They come with an adaptor so they can be used with acft entertainment systems as well. Not noise cancelling but if you dont like things clamping your head like me they are great.
