USB to serial adapter for Garmin GPS
Have recently bought a lovely shiny new Garmin GPS196. And the European City Select pack so I can use it in ther car as well. Only one issue:
In order to transfer routes from my laptop to the GPS, you need to connect the two machines directly - ie. not as a transferal via the card writer. Both my laptops have no serial (DB9) output. The GPS requires a DB9 connection, as far as I can tell. I've not found a USB lead anyways... So - I have seen a few USB to DB9 cables for sale - but my suspicions are aroused by the fact that they seem to range in price for about £20 to around £60. But they all purport to do the same job... Anyone solved the same problem who want to impart their wisdom? Cheers! Hersh Oh - if it's relevant, both lappies are running Win XP. I've only got CitySelect running on one of them, before anyone replies on this point! |
In't Google brillyant ! - personally, the eXpansys link is worth a try, I've bought off them before and always found them very efficient.

Had the same problem, bought a new Dell laptop and to my horror when I came to look for the serial port it didn't have one, at first I thought I was in trouble but then was given a USB to serial connector by a computer bod, it work a treat and have had no problems at all, but you will have to find out which port number is relates to, on mine it is coms port 4.
