STANDBY on laptop
Is it wise to leave a laptop on standby for hours on end instead of switching it off.
Cant see any difference myself - hell of alot quicker to start up when one comes back to it. Jinkster |
Jinkster,
It depends on the OS your notebook is running. It took Microsoft several tries to get it right, and I do not think they have it 100%. Take Care, Richard |
I'm interested in this too. I have a P4 notebook with XP Home. Between uses I leave it on standby with the power adapter plugged in and switched on. Every week or two I unplug the adapter and run the battery down (eg, watch a DVD, or some other power-hungry task) to cycle it.
I've asked some techy people if this is a reasonable/good/bad strategy but haven't had a definitive answer, though have received many opinions! What is the consensus here? AA |
