"Sorry. The search function has been disabled by the administrator"

Every time I click on the "New Posts Since Your Last Visit" link or I try to search the forum I get a message that the search function has been disabled by the admin.

Any ideas what’s going on?

Yes - Prune is sufferring from its own success once again and the "server is too busy" message is appearing with increasing frequency. As a quick fix while a more permanent solution is found, I understand that Danny and his excellent team have been obliged to disable the search and other functions to enable more of us to read and post at a time.

P.P.

Grant, if you think about it asking for new posts since you last logged on is a variation on a search function.

The facilty is going offline in two ways. There's an automatic script running to switch search off when the server reaches a certain load. We've also taken to switching it off manually during the european lunch period - if we're at a computer and remember that is.

Rob

Thanks for both of the replies.

Ah! But do you remember to switch it back on, post luncheon? ;)

Late last night, during the 'European Sleep Period', search was still not available, and with so few logged on to PPRuNe, it seemed unlikely that overload was the cause. Please don't take offence, just a 'tongue-in-cheek' question. I do appreciate the problems and efforts of all concerned.

Rob,

We've also taken to switching it off manually during the european lunch period - if we're at a computer and remember that is.
cron script ?? :ok:

Aplogies SS,

We're developing an evening peak now and Danny has taken search off for much of the day.

We are but frail creatures and he forgot to switch to it back on. As a modern man and technocrat of the first water I've applied a post it note to my cocoa mug;) ;)

The answer is indeed a chron script but the question is, 'How the hell do we find time to sort the problem?' :uhoh: :uhoh:

Rob

Don't worry Danny, we'll blame Rob!:ok: :ok:

You've got a great site here guys, except for a few ungrateful retches!

Good luck with the new server.

dd,

No 'retches' :yuk: please - that really would make it gooey! ;)

Danny/Rob,

Thanks for turning it back on for we wretched night-owls. :D
