I posted a query on the PPRuNe Queries forum. Over one hundred views but no responses, so I thought I would enquire here:

The difference appears to be dependant on whether you are looking at a forum (with a list of topics), a single topic, or a topic consisting of multiple pages. For me, I can see the 'old style' one when I'm in a forum, the new one when I'm in a topic with multiple pages and none when I'm in a topic with only a single page, such as this one. That's on MacOS Mojave using Firefox.
