Saving photos from iphoto to usb drive?

My imac is reaching the end of it's useful life and I am going to treat myself to a new one. However, I would like to transfer my photos on to the new machine (another imac).
Could somebody please tell me how to transfer my photos onto a usb flash drive. I've clicked on everything that I can click on but no luck so far.

Why not use Migration Assistant to transfer all your stuff, including your iPhoto Library to your new Mac?

Failing that, just drag and drop your iPhoto Library file to an external drive and then into your Pictures Folder on the new Mac.

Of course, your new Mac will come with Photos, not iPhoto. When you open Photos for the first time, it will offer to import all your pictures from the iPhoto Library.

Another option if you have an external hard drive is use Apples’s inbuilt ‘Time Machine’ program to make a complete copy of your imac hard drive and then connect it to your new imac and transfer evertything to your new machine.
It is quite straightforward to do.

Angel

Now I realise why we have children. Youngest son returned home from Brunei for a couple of days and with a few clicks of the mouse saved my selected photos to a USB. Off to John Lewis to buy my new iMac in the morning. Now all I need to do is to load them back on (son returned to Brunei this evening so I'm on my own with this).
