Only to certain people. It is not available to the public YET. That happens at the end of this month or in April.

You can get it here

You can also get XP SP3 at the same place but don't forget that they are still beta versions.

I got the final Release Candidate Version of Vista Service Park 1 from an email from Microsoft.

From what I have seen and experienced there is not much Vista will do amazingly well now, still runs at the same speed, uses the same amount of memory and starts up at the same speed.

Fair enough there maybe some security things they have addressed which work away under the skin, but I certainly haven't seen anything that shouts out "Wow this is so amazing".

The final release should be available within the next week or so, but they are working through problems with compatibilities of the language packs.

Hope you've got an hour or so spare to install it.

Goody, timm, I read it was likely to be released today. That means you can tell us what gets buggered up, etc, by SP1, especialy as I'll probably have to wait for Dutch version.

Well, I'm back...

Nothing seems broke so far. Took around 45 mins to install on this pretty basic laptop (Vista Home Basic). Around three reboots I think.

That's a 550MB download containing 35 languages. You may want to consider getting it through Windows Update, where it will be at most 65MB.

only 5 languages, 434.5Mb , and Dutch ain't one of them (only US English, French, German, Japanese and Traditional Spanish.)

As you say, best to wait for it on Win Update as you will end up downloading every single update you already have as SP1 includes every previous update. Makes no sense to download everything twice, does it.

MS have removed the ability to slipstream this service pack so for most people Windows/Microsoft Update is the only way to go.
Reverse integration is possible for those of us that need a challenge and want their Vista installation disk to have SP1 integrated.

Brilliant. What tw@ts. Yet another reason for many organisations to avoid it in droves.

Let's hope that XP SP3 is not similarly hobbled.

Twas painless for me.

But nothing was broken before sp1.

Can't "justify" Vista over XP, but when I use my XP system it looks and feels different to Vista in a way that reminds me of the difference between Win3.11 and Win95 - i.e. the same experience as before but better smoother UI.

The only thing I did after sp1 was delete the extra IE icon that it added

Took three failed attempts of about 45 mins each to install on my machine!

Then I disabled all of the 3rd party security programs I had running (anti virus, firewall etc) and reinstated the windows ones and hey presto installed in less than 15 minutes! Then reactivated all the 3rd party programs!

No problems so far and I dare I say it? Computer appears slightly faster!!
