Outlook date format ?

This should be s.o.o.o. simple, but isn't !

For absolutely no reason - other than I must have 'accidentally' hit a succession of keys unknown to me - my Outlook has started screwing up the presentation of the date when I compose an e-mail

viz: I type 22nd March 2016 but when I hit the space bar, or enter, it produces 22nd March 2016-03-22

I know there is an option to format the date in a variety of styles - 'tho who would choose this one ! - but for the life of me can't find the clue to changing that option, no amount of trawling through the various menus has helped, so far.

Any clues please ?

Its an 'auto-complete' function, that causes the "-03-22" to be added.
Not strictly a formatting issue.

Does that help?

Outlook (since 2007) uses the corresponding version of Word as the composing editor and rendering engine, so you may have changed something in Word that is carrying over into Outlook.

?? Where do I find the Compose option, doesn't appear to be in any of my menus - Outlook 2007.

Meanwhile ... I'll look at Word

Thank you.
