Garmin Mapsource doesn't see GPS

Here's the situation:

I am running XP on a Mac in Parallels. All up-to-date. Installed the drivers for a Garmin GPSMAP 96 and Mapsource and Flightbook software.

Now: XP sees the GPS (connected via USB) and says 'device is working properly'. Also, the GPS itself shows its status as 'connected.

HOWEVER, neither Mapsource nor Flightbook see the device.

Any ideas ? I've been a Mac lifer, so not overly familiar with the vagaries of the offerings from Microsoft. I've so far followed the instructions (Garmin) to the letter, but no joy rebooting, turning GPS on/off, etc.

Any help very welcome!

solved

Problem solved: turns out I hadn't upgraded to the very latest Parallels software (a very recent update). This seems to fix a lot of USB issues. Did that and, hey, presto! everything works.
