Weird one this. I've been using Firefox 2 for a while now but recently when I try to open a youtube link from PPRuNe I get a big page which is filled with nonscense. Example of the first few lines...

Found this on the internet - dont know if of any use - not well up on this stuff

Firefox and Mozilla Suite can't play video and audio - they require the help of browser plugins provided by media players. You may already have the correct media players installed on your system, but this does not guarantee that you have the plugins as well. These articles will tell you how to get the most common plugins and how they should be set up.

I have just updated to 1.5.0.8 and I NOW get no youtube viewing either, but not your message. Mine saas "you either have Javascript turned off" (it is turned on) or "you need to download the latest Flash Player" (I have.)

I suspect it is a bug in the update?

Thanks for the replys so far.

The strange thing is, I can go to Youtube and watch the videos manually but if I try to go via a link then a get the error.

I think my problem started after the last update also...but I can't be 100% sure.

youtube problems

Not exactly the same as above. When electing to play a youtube link sometimes the page opens and at the bottom of the screen it says "Buffering and %%%%% while it loads up then plays the clip traight through. Most other times it seems to start then jerks along in about 3sec bursts until it's finished, THEN I can play it through in a oner. When the clips are short this is about liveable with but e.g. the Tu 154 clip is 10mins+ then it becomes a PITA. Am I doing something wrong?? Help anyone?

Ouch, that hurts!!

Actually, it all works fine with FF 2.0 for me!

I would suggest a clean re-install of Firefox 2, and then a look through this list: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/plugins/

Not all of them are strictly needed but they are recommended. With those installed (I guess that for this problem Flash player and Shockwave are important, I can never tell the two apart!) I would guess that it should work.

If you're installing Realplayer, make sure to deselect a lot of the options. I like to install it without any extra's, and only for Real files, that way it works fine. If you leave everyting set to default it tends to intrude too much to my liking.

Well - I've tried everything - it is obviously a setting on my machine. I've rolled back to FF 1.0.6 and a clean install of 2 and I get the same message. I have the latest Flash and Shockwave thingies.

Never thought I'd say it - thank the Lord for IE

Another strange symptom I have found...If I click the link I get the "garbage" page but if I open another tab to manually find the link, it wont load the video until I close the "garbage" tab.

I suspect it MAY be something Gates'ish in the woodwork since I am now back at an even older FF which USED to work with youtube but does not now. Could they be trying to 'spike the guns'?

I'm using Firefox/1.5.0.8, and I have no problems with YouTube.

No Conspiracy.

Probably just a file association. Needle in Haystack. Good Luck.

HA, finally I don't feel like a dork....I upgraded to FF2 and spent the last week dealing with bizarre things. Removed everybit of it and went to 1.5.0.7 and everyting a OK. Even went as far as switching to Opera but the older FF seems to work so far. Phew that's a load off my mind...

Had another (fresh!) look at Firefox/Youtube and it now works. I needed to select youtube in the 'noscript' add-on options. Simple
