Adaware se
A new version of Adaware is available. The current version will be phased out in about 90 days.
I have just downloaded it on XP and seems to be working fine.

Adaware SE
Hi Sprocket,
Did you just download over the version already on your PC ?
Looking at the new 'face' of the SE, it looks a bit fancy - I like the no nonsense look of the old version.
Do you find much difference in the operation?
Cheers

G'day TG, first up I downloaded and then installed.
The Install Wizard will give you the option to remove existing Adaware 6 before it installs SE. I used it to remove AAW6 and the install went well.
The Lavasoft web site forum has some FAQs if you want to learn more about SE.
EDIT: I believe there may be some conflict with the two versions if SE is installed over the top of AAW6.
Dont forget to check for updates after installing, there have been a couple since the initial release of SE

I've found the new version of Adaware to be far more thorough in both its detection of problems and in the way that it reports them.
It's also much faster.
Certainly gives more control over what you delete, whilst providing additional and more detailed information.
Overall a great improvement on an already great tool.

Updated version installed
Hi Guys,
I've just installed the latest FREE SE version, and was surprised to find it said I had 107 infiltrations! I binned them all.
I tried updating the 'signatures' after it said my list was 6 days old???!!! On instructing it to update, it said no new components to install....... strange.
The present definitions [right after installing upgrade] are:
SE1R7 06.09.2004 [with the core application 1.04 Personal]
I just find strange/odd that such a smashing FREEWARE is telling me my definitions are 6 days out of date, then does not apparently allow the update.
Another niggle is this little note from the HELP files:
I happened to like the auto have a look facility in the old version when the PC fired up every time!
Still it's free, so acceptable.
Cheers

BRL,
They always make the ones you need to purchase easy to find and you practically need to be Sherlock Holmes to find the Freeware on most websites.
Take Care,
Richard

This thread is so useful to me, especially when I'm choosing new software for the home PC's.
Sadly some of the programs are hard to find - Sygate has been "taken over" so their excellent firewall is hard to find now, DVDdecrypter has been nobbled by legal threats, etc.
Perhaps we should try and update Chris's excellent list, to keep it as useful???

ImgBurn takes over from DVDDecrypter...

Looks like the same software with a new name but I notice it has been updated to handle later encryption!

Microsoft have bought- out the excellent Giant Antispyware. They are allowing a free download for XP under their new name of Defender. I don't like Microsoft much, but this is a very good anti spyware programme that runs in the background
