Overflying Venezuelan Airspace
 

Anyone have info regarding this? Some say to steer clear while others say no problem.

I did once. Did everything through Universal. No issues.

Sadly no one knows really well what is going on over there.
There was a PPR, but their system to request PPR is offline since November or October.

After that I flew over their airspace for 7 times without PPR.

One guy told me that they will send the bill once their system back online, but I don't believe on it. They lost control of it.

Anyway, if your aircraft can it may be better to avoid overflight. We (here in Brazil) don't know what the amount of taxes they will charge for each overflight.

Before October it was like USD500 each time plus handling fees.

I'd stay away, those guys are unpredictable.

Most brazilian pilots ferrying aircrafts to and from Brazil through the Caribbean avoid overflying their airspace.

I've never experienced any problems with overflying Venezuela. That said, one option if you want to consider avoiding, is to route over Colombia or as Soave Pilot mentioned, head out over the Caribbean. If flying on a ferry permit, the Caribbean feds are more likely to spot check you that in Colombia.

Columbia is becoming safer, due to the recent FARC-Government Ceasefire and Disarmament Accord. Google it.
