I am currently undergoing a crash course in Spanish by the total immersion method, the same way I learnt Portuguese and my horribly accented French.
The issue here, though seems to be that a few selfish individuals are trying to hijack the forum to further an issue despite the presence of a clear and concise set of rules AND a general concensus. Why can't we just get down to discussing this vibrant region and it's issues in peace (and in English)

Congratulations and good luck in your Spanish-language crash course. I don't remember having ever seen any post by you in this forum (at least nothing recent). Look forward to your participation about this vibrant region, in peace, and in English.

Would be an idea. For now, at least, the Spanish Forum seems to have more to do with Spanish nationality than Spanish language. This seems about as interesting to me as someone from the USA wanting to read about aviation and it's problems and dilemas in the United Kingdom.

I understand why the moderator needs to be able to understand what is going on in the forum of his/hers responsibility. Are we short of volunteers who speak Spanish and want to moderate or is the current moderator not want to relinquish the forum? I don't believe that is so. Are we even looking for volunteers? Let us expand our minds.

Suggestions -
Regrettable that this forum (or any other) do not admit other major languages.
Many in our industry in South America are NOT fully fluent in English.
I know pilots who can meet ICAO English minimums but have difficulties with conversation.
And if not conversation, just writing in English. Enough that many of you criticize poor English spelling...
South America is Spanish and Portuguese... you forget Brazil, a powerhouse of aviation...
I have a friend test pilot with Embraer. His English is poor. He reads Pprune as a visitor...
Then the Carribean, with small minorities of French or Dutch/Papiamento...
I am not asking to make Quechua, Aymara and Guarani approved languages.
I am asking to make major languages such as Spanish-Portuguese-French-Dutch acceptable.
I read the Italian forum, I understand a lot, yet cannot write/speak Italian...
My Brazilian Portuguese is rather good, but when I speak/write, I mix Spanish and Portuguese.

Policy remains for this to be an English language forum.
The reason is due to the legal issues we perpetually face. Our foreign language mods have been with us for 10 years or more and learned the hard way.
Therefore we haven't opened any other non English forums for many years and despite many requests.
It's not cultural imperialism and it leaves a huge opportunity for others to start, build and grow a great non English site.

To tell you the truth I was rather skeptical on the reason of English being the language in the forum. However I have since learned that due to a myriad of legalities and I am sure more than a fair share of security issues and a sever lack of available Spanish speaking moderators with experience English has to be the language. I just appreciate what moderators have to go through to provide this forum. Many things have to go on behind the scenes.

You guys just forgot one big detail the most spoken language in South America is not spanish. It's portuguese as Brasil with s not z (nobody says SUA instead of USA do they? So why change the name of the country) accounts to 200milion or the population of the rest of the continent combined. Second some Americans trend to tinks latin american involves everyone and South Americans are all spanish well that's not true in South America there are several countries that are not spanish and don't even have a culture similar to spanish countries all Guyanas and Trinidad/Tobago to name some and Brasil is not similar to spanishes contries neither by food nor by culture.
To add even more most of pilots and population in Brasil don't speak english.
So to make more sense and be more politically correct my sugestion is you divide the forums in South America, Central America and this way kepp the english language as standard (in this case I would agree) or let the LATIN america speak any of the LATIN laguages not only spanish as Italian is also Latin, Romenian is also Latin, Spanish and French as well of course don't forget the Portuguese.
So unless you get moderators for all these languages change the forums to South America and Central America make it correct Latin America does not exist in any atlas, it's just a discriminating way to US people to refer to whoever is born south of their borders in the same continent.
It's time to stop this arrogance and not nice aproachto other cultures as we already elected finally a Black President here we should learn how to respect other cultures and stop changing the world map.

this is a latin forum and the oficial lenguage for this countries are spanish, so if the moderator doesnīt know spanish, learn it , but donīt delete the post only writting in english is very anoid and is not good for the excelence and tolerance of this website.

The most widely spoken language in Latin America is actually Portuguese, the official language of Brazil. Also we shouldn't forget that French is also spoken in Latin America and is the official language of French Guiana, Dutch is spoken in Suriname, and then we have the fun of the indigenous languages such as Quechua and Guarani, both of which are official languages of Bolivia.
So really English is the best choice, even before we look at legal reasons.
