Interested in getting into flying
Hello, I want to become a pilot but I’m not sure which route to go; should I go to university and get a degree along side my pilot’s license or should I just get my pilots license? Would a degree help me in this field? Thanks |
I believe a degree is highly desirable if you are able, and intend, to work in the USA and probably Canada. Not so much needed in Europe. Either way it can't hurt.
Some universities offer flight school combined with an aeronautics degree. Check qualifications required on airline recruitment sites. |

And standbykid is right: check recruiting websites keeping in mind posted requirements can change by the time you get enough training/experience to be competitive. Get out into the aviation arena and meet people who can advise you. The degree issue has been sufficiently debated in this website. Beware of getting lulled into a false sense of comfort by seeing a degree listed only as "preferred". That means little as the mention of a degree by recruiters means they value it, perhaps to irrational levels. The thought process of av recruiters will often make absolutely no sense to you but spend no time bemoaning that. It's their game...their rules. Play by them or accept the consequences. Learn if most or ALL your competition will have a degree. |
