ADB Expired.Do I have to apply for license again.

My Aviation Document Booklet has expired. And I did apply to renew it 90 days prior to the date. So do I have to re-apply for new license and have all the test and flight checks again?Or I could just fill the application sheet and send it to TC.

If you applied prior to expiry then you should be fine. An expired document doesn't mean you lose everything you did to achieve it in the first place.

Now that the creator of this absurd piece of mumbo jumbo has retired lets hope it reverts to being a "Pilot or Aicrew Lic" so we dont have to explain to the rest of the world, "yes, we really are the pilots" which has hapened to me severall times since the introduction of this absurd document , While they are at it, how about combining the radio Lic with it, I dont care that it is a seperate government department, JUST FIX IT!!! There, now I feel much better!

Preferably one that fits in your wallet!

The first time I used my ADB "in anger", when I was doing a check-out, I was told that I couldn't fly solo, because I didn't have my "radio licence". I had foolishly assumed that was included in the ADB. It's now stapled into it!

4 to 6 weeks is the normal turn time for a new booklet. If it has close to 90 days then something is definitely wrong. I would contact your nearest TC office immediately and ask for the status of your application. TC can issue you a temporary paper license to use while you wait for your new book.

If you're in ZWWW (diverted there once, what a !!!!hole) why do you need a ADB?

Since the booklet contains more than just a licence, calling it a licence would be inaccurate. It was created for two reasons. First was in response to an ICAO requirement that all information that relates to a flight crew member's aviation qualifications and medical fitness be located in one place. Second was to make forgery more difficult. Let's face it, the old ones were quite easy to duplicate. The booklet has essentially the same security features as our passports and they're difficult to forge.

Re the radio licence, I agree that it's not ideal but since the Minister of Transport does not establish or enforce the regulatory requirements for use of radio spectrum in Canada, they have no authority to issue a radio operator certificate. The last time I checked, the Ministry of Health doesn't issue my driver's licence, even though my ability to drive safely could affect my (or someone else's) health.

JO, Im sorry, but you sound like a PR person of all thats wrong with TC, if you REALLY want to follow all the ICAO/EU/TC/ requirments then how about the one which says "flight crew licences shall clearly indicate what crew function the Lic holder serves""Aviation Document "doesnt cut it! Come along with us sometime when we drop into a field in a part of the world where if you dont wear gold bars {the more the better,} and have somthing which says "PILOT" on it then you are going to spend a whole bunch of time there trying to contact the local Canadian Consulate! {if there is one} As for the radio lic being issued by a seperate government departmen this is no excuse for the two "Empires" not to cooperate, the example you use rather than explain the situation mearly points out how disfunctional our Civil Service really is! It amazes me that my wife, {not a Canadian} can renew her documents faster than I can and I am only 1OO klicks from the TC head shed, she is a lot farther from her country of birth. As for the ADB being hard to forge, really? I think not judging by my experience in obtaining visas for of -shore students, anything you want to name can be forged to order using modern kit.The solution? well, just South of us we have a nation with more aviation than the rest of the world combined, lets just copy them, not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than we have in Canada.Happy new year!

LOL. Open the booklet and look inside. It clearly spells out your aviation qualifications. Even a Cuban cop could read it.

clunckdriver 31st December 2015 15:14

JO, my offer to come along with us one day stands , you will see that you totally over estimate the reading standards around the world, it it isnt in big letters on the cover and looks pretty much like the "crib sheet" the official has in front of him/her then you are not getting by the desk in under half a day, or when you pay the bribe, your choice! Its obvious that you have a much higher opinion of TC than I do, so lets just agree to disagree, Tell me, do you really belive that in most of the third world the guy/gall behind the desk toting an AK47 has a bloody clue what ATPL/SMELS means?, the dont, but they are instructed to look for PILOT LICENCE, just like it looks on their crib sheet, if you dont have it you are most likely a spy coming in to make their lives even worse than they already are. By the way, if you do finish up in one of these !!!!holes, bring lots of Canadian Tire money, they just love it!
