Looking for that first job!
Hey guys,
I'm currently finishing up my training, almost finished up my Group 1 IFR and I obtained my CPL back in June. I still have another year of university left so I won't be looking to begin my first job for about another 10-12 months, currently living in Waterloo, ON. I'm looking for some help or maybe someone can point me in the right direction when it comes to finding openings for new pilots or any resources to help. I expect to have ~250 TT/130 PIC around the time I would be looking to start. I'm willing to move anywhere for a decent job, but I've sort of got my eyes on the Calgary area since I have family out that way. Thanks for any help! Cheers! |
Finally someone who gets it. You dont start looking when you get the CPL and degree etc, you start a year before you are done and know exactly what the market is when you enter it.
I don't have any leads for you, but good on ya, smart move! Best of luck, hope you find something. The other slugs just starting to look at the market after graduating/getting CPL's take note, this person will get a job before you! |
Road trip!
If you don't have something lined up by spring, make a list of every small operator in the country and get in your car. They like to see your face and know that you're ready to work. You'll most likely start on the ramp. |
There are so many operators and so much info available. I don't think you will find any golden ticket from posting here, but I'd read all the forums and start calling/applying now with operators that look promising. That first spot is tough, good luck

CF - you may want to try looking into instructing jobs first to gain some more hours and get more competitive. Always make sure you continue to network, you never know when the person you said hi to may be your opportunity. Best of luck!
