Bombardier line captain job
good day, anybody has some intel on this job i.e sched, salary...And
I find out these positions are coming back often ? internal growth or bad working conditions ? Tks |
What "line captain" position are you referring to? Big company with many different flight departments.

Willie
|
Might depend on which side of the border the position is located. OEMs traditionally don't pay as well as some would like.

I see three captain positions available under the "Careers" section on their web site Bombardier - The only manufacturer of planes and trains
|
Production test pilot, must be Canadian or hold a Canadian ATP and have the right to work in Canada. Probably a mx of growth and turnover.
GF |
I'll say it again...
Production flight test prefer non-Canadians. Willie :ok: |
And you're still wrong. It would be illegal to hire non-Canadians when there when qualified Canadians are available. By far, the Mirabel and Dorval production test pilots are Canadian or landed immigrants. However, BFTC (experimental and developmental test) has hired non-Canadians due to job training and experience requirements.
My advice: apply! GF |
I stand corrected.
The victim of here say. Willie |
Production test pilots do not have to be TPS grads, most, maybe all, aren't. The BFTC guys have a number, maybe a majority, of TPS grads. Not a surprise, that makes it difficult for Canadians unless they were sponsored by the Forces, as several in my acquaintance were. The BFTC pilots are based in the US, or were until the C-series program when it moved to CYMX. As to "nobody watching" that's also incorrect, any American working there has to have a work permit, verify that it is necessary for an American to fill the position because no Canadians are available, just as Bombardier has to do in the US.
The majority of Bombardier pilots are Canadians, so you might drop the chip off your shoulder, get the quals and apply. The TPS programs, except for the civilian one in California, are all military and usually not open to civilian companies. GF |
Think you'll find all the prime BA CSeries crew are all Canadian - and graduates from AX (plus other TPS) to boot. Like the majority of TCA TPs, most BFTC pilots are ex-Cold Lake and, probably because of the CF-18, Pax River but there are also Edwards & EPTS graduates as well.

Thanks for the 'correction'.
Willie :ok: |
As already stated, any US pilots participating in the experimental C-series program, will return. Considering where I live in the US we have several hockey teams of Canadian pilots, cross-border travel is sometimes one-way, they all have green cards.
Both governments have to review any visa applications and renewals; this might be a political problem, rather than a pilot one. GF |
Okay, so however it gets rationalized, Bombardier ARE hiring foreign pilots.
Now, what's the difference between your Certification - Test Pilot and your Production Flight Test - Pilot and a your line - Pilot? I can see one group requiring special quals and experience... but the rest? Do these job descriptions NEED former F-18 flight test pilots and without trying to sound like a moron (and I sometimes do), an F-18 isn't a Transport Category aeroplane. I'm thinking we have a fair number of Transport Category experienced pilots with thousands of hours of operational experience who clearly haven't graduated from the Empire Flight Test School or Pax River but who would fit in somewhere. Just trying to understand their approach to pilot hiring. BTW can't wait for you guys to get the C Series flying. Willie :ok: |
Bombardier has always had a mix of US and Canadian pilots, depending on duties, qualifications required, applicant pool and location. The ratio is, my understanding, about 75% Canadian, 25% US, not counting Flex Jet. The production test guys are not usually ETPS, NTPS or AFTPS grads, that qual is mostly, but not exclusively, required for the Flight Test Center. This ratio and location has been common since Canadair started the Challenger program. There has been several Canadian grads of one of the Test Pilot Schools employed in the programs.
As an international company, BA, no doubt, hires from the best world-wide, many from Europe, US, UK, and Asia. I'm not privy to hiring details, but, again, apply, visit or network with crews at a show or FBO. Again, stop making this a political argument, it's not; it's about who, in the company's view can do the best job. The flight programs are dominated by Canadians. The Certification/Experimental pilots are ICT and YMX based. The Production Test pilots are YUL, YMX and Downsview based. The shuttle operations are ICT, Downsview and YUL based, mostly pilots that also fly some production test. The demo guys are US-based, always have been, mixed US and Canadian pilots. The Canadian crews have a wide variety of Transport category experience, the training center has several ex-Canada 3000, CRJ, -8 pilots; plus ex-military in F-18s, C-130s and anything else the mil guys fly.
