ATC in Canada
I heard that there are ATC jobs going in Canada. I'm an APP controller in Sydney, and would be interested in a working holiday. However, I heard that there was a lot of industrial disputes going on over there at the moment.I'm looking for some real info on the job over there, like pay and working conditions. I'm not after the company line but the real world. Any helpers??

two years ago canadian atc privatized, now Nav Canada-ergo bottom profits rule.Always short of people, slow to qualify new candidates(ifr cntrs or twrs).managment always short cutting staff(forced overtime)
to cover crew shortages.(one day off in nine) Apart from that, and living in the world's most taxed province in the Industrialized countries, the Daffodills are up early |
Errr..Dawgweed, the link doesn't describe a place of happiness (between NAVCAN and employees anyway).
I'm led to believe the taxman wields a mighty club. What is the money like (before tax & take home) in the City Towers and Terminal Approach Centres? ------------------ "flow! like thine inspirer, beer" -Alexander Pope, 1742 (History's first Approach Controller?) |
m&v, whatta you mean, the most overtaxed province? Try living in this neck of the land of the frozen chosen. Seriously, you're right about ATC. NavCan operates like John Wayne, CHARGE. They're gonna close the tower here in less than two years, and replace it with something more cost effective. Two years ago, our little single 'plane corporate operation was budgeted at about $80 K per year for landing /user fees etc. For 2001, it's gonna cost about $350 K, and I'll be damned if I can see any improvement in service. I was at the COPA meeting in UL two years ago, and the head honcho of NavCan told the audience that if there was "a shortfall of funds" the corporate aviation community would be invoiced to cover it. Can you imagine going to one of your clients and telling them "sorry, I've screwed up, and you gotta pay"? You would be kicked so hard, you'd think you had a shoe factory up your ass.

Sounds like the grass is greener down under!
Thanks for the help, I appreciate the responses. Bottom line though, what is the pay like? |
