Westjet, Canada 3000
Hi.
I am looking for some feedback from anyone currently looking into or working with these two carriers. I have been working out of Canada for the last 5 years, and have really lost touch with the Canadian job market. I am currently on the 747 classic, with about 2500hrs widebody time (fo), 3700tt, and looking into coming back. Does anyone have the WJ minimums, and a short description of the conditions and salaries, as well Canada 3000. I would appreciate any opinions of each as well. Just interested, Thanks. |
hi
how are ya , montreal here , i really dunno much about job market in canada , i am new here , hows does it look outside canada for jobs ? i got 550 tt and 100 mel , thanks for help . i talked to a westjet new hire and he got 7000 tt and got hired by em , he was an ex-inter-canadian , and he said they are looking for pilots , so give it a shot . if you need any addresses or fax numbers , just ask , be glad to get em for you . see ya |
WestJet's minimum is still at 5000 TT just to get an interview. They are speculation that this will drop eventually, but there are still a lot of pilots on file who exceed this minimum. There's also a lot of emphasis on references from within the company. The result is a great bunch of people to work with.

Hey:
Thanks for the prompt feedback, I would appreciate any others with opinions or info here as well. As to WJ, well I guess I don`t make those minimums, but has anyone heard of dispensation for jet time, most of mine is, as well I do have a 737-200 rating. Regarding jobs in Europe, well there is plenty of hiring, and not a great deal of people on the market, however the Jar-ops may change this, either you have an EU license soon or you are not eligible, simple as that, as well the right to live and work is required. However the charter market is very much alive, most companies will not type, but the pay is great, you see some interesting places, and you will fly alot! I really enjoy the flying we do,and I realize I will probably take a large cut to come back, but I really do like Canada, and theres no place like home. RE the address offer, I would appreciate that, that will save the long distance call :) so thanks.By the way, I am happy to reciprocate with UK or other address if required. |
In addition to the 5000TT WestJet also asks for quite a bit of PIC multi on turbine or >12,500 lbs. I think it was 500h.

Hey
WestJet's address is : 35 McTavish Place NE Calgary, Alberta T2E 7J7 Canada Tel : (403)-735-2600 Fax : (403)-571-4649 This other number (403)-735-2664 i got from their web site , thats the one to call for job opportunities , and check the site out at www.westjet.com . see ya |
Jet time is an asset and so is B737 time, but neither guarantees an interview with WestJet. I got turned down with 4300 TT and 1000 PIC on the 737. Right now there's still enough quality time guys out there looking for work which makes it very competitive. Keep tryin', though. Persistance pays off in the end.

Hello Canadair:
I'm in the same situation as yourself. I've been flying the Canadair CRJ and now B747-400F (FO) out of Europe with 4000 hrs. I want to get back home even with the high taxes. Where are you based? |
Canadair;
Try this sight: www.climbto350.com You might have to scroll back a month or so, but there was a new start up using 747-200's out of Mirabel I think. Called Titan Air. I believe C3 have dropped there requirements to 3000 hours, but an inside reference helps. Best of Luck |
Westjet bare minimums are 5000 hrs. with at least 1000 hrs as Captain on an a/c over 12500lbs.. No exceptions to date . A/C can be jet, turboprop or piston. Growing fast are hiring people who can be captain in short time if needed 6-12 months.

Hi,13,000 Hrs half on EFIS,jets,do I have a chance?
|
I would say that you stand an excellent chance if you want to come back to Canada. However no-one here is hiring direct entry captains so you would have to start as an F/O. At WestJet left seats are being awarded in 15 to 18 months, I do not know about C3 but I believe it is a bit longer.
Good Luck Canuck |
Hi:
Thanks for the input and information. I have not checked here for a while but seems as if there is certainly options. Truth is I have been looking into coming back but I am kinda rethinking it as the wages to return are just so low compared to the international market. I know the cost of living is also a factor, ( read lower by quite abit) but the wages are not even close! I guess it is a classic case of supply and demand. Any opinions out there on what will change this, in particular will the 74 startup mentioned be paying on par, or do we just accept the fact that part of the price we pay to live in the best country in the world, ( my opinion only of course) is relatively low pay. |
Made the move a year ago and never looked back. Europe was fun while it lasted, but a Rocky Mountain sunrise is hard to beat. I even sleep with a smile!
