Twotter accident in Yellowknife
Does anybody know what happened to Max Ward on Saturday? Heard there was an accident at Yellowknife, and they had to be rescued from the water.
|
Rumour has that Max hard landed his Twin Otter in the back bay at Yellowknife and that it suffered major damage. Floats torn off everyone on board went swimming. No serious injuries. Note this is just rumpour from the lads up north.

Looks as if the northern rumour mill has the same story as the journalists.
National Post- Saturday July 1, 2000 Yellowknife: Three people, including a Canadian aviation legend, were pulled from the wreckage of a float plane that crashed yesterday afternoon, RCMP say. The Twin Otter crashed in Back Bay of Great Slave Lake, a landing area near the city surrounded by shops and restaurants. "All three people are in great shape," said Staff Sergeant Terry Scott. Witnesses said Max Ward, 78, founder of the defunct airline Wardair, and his wife were on board. [This message has been edited by Luftwaffle (edited 05 July 2000).] |

I heard Max Ward was driving.......he was doing a cross wind landing and the left wing tip hit the water and cartwheeled over, the right wing tore off and the left was left by the flying wires, and the floats were buckled, half the plane in in Air Tindi hangar and the other in Ptmarigan's hangar. Max apparently wasn't flying with a F/O, but all are unhurt , thank goodness.
Pigboat go to aviatorselect there is a website there which has another web site with pictures of the crash. as well as other people's thoughts and views. Cheers xward |
