Job Availability in Canada

Hi,

I am 26 years old from Norwich, England. I have UK CAA PPL (65hrs T/T). I am just about to embark on a trip Canada to train at Victoria Flying Club to gain:-

NIGHT
MULTI ENGINE
MULTI IFR
COMMERCIAL
INSTRUCTORS

I was wondering if anybody has any further information with regards to employment after the completion of my flight training, whether instructing or maybe that precious start in the right hand seat for a charter company ?

I thank you for your time and await your reply

Cheers

Greetings Phil Thompson.

After you are finished with your training, Transport Canada allows foreign aviation students to work up to a year. After that, I'm afraid you are going to have to convince an operator to give you a work permit or marry a local. Instructors are in demand as are bush pilots...if you are willing to take a road trip and visit the various operators up north. As for the right seat job, you never know...you might get lucky.
Just to let you know though, Canada has the highest population of Commerial Pilots per percentage of the total population so competition is going to be stiff. On the positive side, BC has some of the best scenary for pilots to encounter.
Cheers

I have heard of flight schools sponsoring foreign pilots as flight instructors. Making the personal contact and convincing the employer you have a unique skill or qualification which other Canadians pilots cannot provide is the key. The employer will have to advertise the postion and be unable to fullfill the postion based on the qualifications required.

I flight instructed at the Victoria International Airport a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. The WX, scenery and mix of transport, commuter, millitary and light traffic makes for some very wonderful experieces!

I'm flying a light twin commuter in the north now and feel like I'm providing a real and needed service to the community. I really enjoy the freedom of the uncontrolled airspace and the short gravel strips I frequent.

Good luck with you career. Hope it works out well for you!

Thanks for your replies, I guess there is only one way to go about it, and that's get stuck in, spend alot of money and meet alot of people! (in the right places).

Cheers
