Porter Air/REGCO

Anyone know any further information? Hiring pilots? Ground Crew? Agents? F/A'? Or will they contract out?

oldebloke 14th February 2006 08:35

I believe several people have left Skyservice for Porter..
The executives have been in the business for years..
A good steady yearround job from downtowm TO,the only thing to beat that is to be based in YVR..:ok:

yyzdub 20th February 2006 12:38

Why would people leave Skyservice for a Turbo prop operation? Would the Toronto basing and convenience for some be worth it?

minimum requirements

anyone have a clue as to their minimum requirements for F/Os?

meaw 21st February 2006 14:13

My sense is that their requirements for FO's will probably pretty low.AC and Jazz are hiring large numbers,so is Westjet. That means all the smaller airlines are loosing guys so there it is,I think the pendulum is swinging in the pilots favour. Also I dont think too many qualified guys will leave their jobs to get on with a startup...too risky.

I agree.

But some will see the 100k salary and left seat attractive. But I agree with you some will.

Dockjock 21st February 2006 14:57

I doubt the requirements will be low. The initial class of hires will probably have lots of experience- direct entry Captains and quick upgrade F/O's. It will squeeze other DH8 operators (not Jazz), and other turboprop operators, driving down minimums even further at those companies.
A downtown regional in Toronto with brand new airplanes, assuming the pay is half decent, will probably never have to hire 'low time' pilots.

Keld 21st February 2006 20:07

Wondering since the Deluce's and V.P. are involved if they won't enforce some sort of "bond" on new hires? As mentioned, hopefully since the market has "turned" in favour of a hiring frenzy, they will be reasonable about attracting experienced pilots who might be interested in driving brand new Dash 8-400's around the sky

B757FO, just wondering where you heard that pay figure from? Sounds pretty good to me, although perhaps on the high side for a startup operation watching every penny.

What is the word on the street around Toronto about when the hiring process is going to start?

Should be interesting!:)

Keld 23rd February 2006 12:38

Yup, that V.P.

I have no source about the pay but just is the rumour I have heard around from other guys. Its probably close though I would imagine to attrack people to go.

Heard rumours that the initial course will consist of 30 people. Not sure if it will be an in house g/s or done at FS in Toronto....

Anyone have any info as to where to send in a resume?

TRU 11th March 2006 17:42

The initial order is for 10 Q400s. Assuming they plan to crew each aircraft with 3-4 crews. They could require between 60-80 pilots. Sounds promising.

Keld. Do you work out of YTZ?

brucelee 11th March 2006 18:18

I wish them well. But history shows us that anything based out of ytz has always had a difficult time. Politics and just lack of interest will make this gig a flash in the pan. AC used to run many flights daily out of there. But in reality ony two flights made sense. Point to point transborder is not a promissing idea. Connections and feeding is important. If they manage to start up, look for trouble within the first two years. Only my humble, been there done that, experience.:ok:

TRU 11th March 2006 18:34

You are correct Bruce. All start-up airlines have many obstacles and the island itself poses a few of its own. However, if Deluce and the TPA proceed with the purchase of a new ferry and construct the Pax terminal on the city side, they are headed in the right direction.

As for the airline itself. It all begins with management and the team they have in place is Blue chip all the way. Time will tell. One thing is for sure...Deluce isn't going down without a fight.

brucelee 11th March 2006 18:47

TRU.
You're right. Deluce will give it a good shot. I'm only offering an opinion as to the obstacles he faces. But then again as a good businessman I'm sure he's already anticipated all the obstacles. My concern remains that YTZ with all it's potential, it's potential will not be realized. Toronto has a big airport with lots of airlines and lots of connections. YTZ could be just another YMX in the making. I am all for successs so let's hope it all works out.

TRU 11th March 2006 18:51

Agreed. Cheers.:ok:
