Airparks In Canada
 

Hi Guys

Does anyone know if there are many of these in Canada and where they are located ?

Just thinking that it might be a good place to live when we (finally) move out there.

Any help/guidance/advice gratefully received.

I can think of two places where there are houses beside the runway and airplanes in driveways.
Guelph Air Park CNC4 is a nice city about 45 minutes west of Toronto, Ontario. Guelph is a long established (for Canada) community and a great place to live.
Okotoks CFX2 is 45 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta and was developing their airpark a few years ago. I haven't heard anything about it lately. Alberta is very friendly and you are close to the Rockies but actually living in the prairies.

The Okotoks Air Park is under construction right now. The downside is the runway is only 3000’. The upside is it is a nice little town.

Here’s an interesting little “Canadian-ism” I’ve noticed. We all measure distance in time it takes you to drive someplace.

Q. How far from Calgary to Vancouver?
A. 12 hours.

Q. How far from Edmonton to Calgary?
A. 3 Hours.

I think it is because distances are so large as to be meaningless. We know we have to get there anyway, so all we care about is how long it is going to take us to get there.

I noticed that the links are either incorrect or non-existant though.

I think there also is a proposed airpark development at (South)Cooking Lake (east of Edmonton).

My cousin, a former airline pilot, had a house at Guelph Airpark and loved it. Generally good weather - at least for southern Ontario.

Airparks are common in the US - are they also common in Canada too ?

Baker Lake
There was a guy developing and airpark north of Kingston at a place called Baker lake - meant for summer homes. Very nice lake.
Really don't know the current status

I just read a news clipping a few days ago about a developer working on an Airpark for Ft. Macleod Alberta, where I'm sure the cost of lot and home would be MUCH cheaper than other Canadian sites.....but be warned....it can get a bit breezy in that area of the province.

Not the same kind of "Air Park". I believe OP wants a house & hangar on airport property connected by taxiway to the runway. That's the true (US) definition of an Air Park, and they are indeed rare in Canada.

We've got a lot at Okotoks with taxiway access. Was all set to bulid pre 9-11 with commute to KAL. Reevaluated our situ in the Middle East and will stay until I'm too old or the pots full (glitter or crap). Lot is currently for sale but otherwise was a great plan!

I forgot to mention Candle Lake, Sk.
Nice place with lots located off the lake and not too $$$. We were going to buy there as well but what we found on the water was 480K so backed off. Water front is 3K a foot!!
