Air Canada files for CCAA protection

Announced today that Air Canada has applied for creditor protection under CCAA (Canadian Creditors Arrengement Act).

Best of luck to all in this restructuring effort. The company will no doubt emerge as a smaller version of it's currrent self but hopefully as a healthier one.

Having gone through this twice in my own career (neither company survived) my thoughts are with all who will be adversely effected by this turn of events.

Cheers

Geeze, sounds like you may bring bad luck to your company. Did WJ know about this before they hired you?;)

 I was with a Canadian carrier from 1980 to 1990 then they went bust.Another Canadian carrier took them over and they went bust. The carrier who took them over have just gon bust.In my ten years associated with Canada i saw numerous carriers go bust.
The moral of the story is,anyone in canada to do with the aircraft industry (and is still in it) will have had numerous jobs and does not have a secure future.

John:

Actually it did come up during the interview as I was being interviewed on a Monday and had just received my layoff notice effective 10 days after the interview.

I have looked at it as 3rd time lucky :ok: :ok: and so far so good. A little over 3 years and counting.

Cheers

Canada can be a career graveyard if you are committed to flying airline category equipment. There are other ways to enjoy a living in this industry if you are flexible.

Please don't tell my mother that I'm in aviation. She still thinks I'm a piano player in a whore house.
