A case study in how to manage fuel

A Canadian North Dash 8-100 encountered deteriorating weather at its destination and at it's alternate, in the high Arctic of Canada. The pilots' decision making appears to be a classic example of good judgement in a very hostile environment:

Incident: Canadian North DH8A at Igloolik, Cape Dorset and Iqaluit on Nov 30th 2016, landed with 400lbs of fuel remaining

Well done, folks, that's what keeps the place running when you're supplying an essential service.

Thank the, any, Lord, they were not a minimum fuel operator; but then who would be up there at this time of year. The skill here was also to make a correct analysis of their predicament, consider their options and make a decision then execute it PDQ. No dithering: then live to fly another day. :ok:

Reading the Metars , had they landed any way , how would they have taken off in freezing drizzle ?

Good job fellow Canucks, you made us proud! I have to hope that the publicity, whether on PPRuNe, or elsewhere, about the Medellin crash, was fresh in their minds, and prompted the crew to make a prompt and wise decision.
