New discount airline Travel Leaf

How about this for a business model?

MONTREAL — A new discount airline in Canada is set to take off next month.

NewLeaf Travel announced Wednesday that it will fly between seven airports in Canada starting Feb. 12. They include Halifax, Hamilton, Regina, Saskatoon, the B.C. cities of Abbotsford and Kelowna, and Winnipeg, where the carrier is based.

The company is promoting one-way fares for as low as $89, but in exchange passengers will face charges for carry-on bags, seat selection, drinks and printed boarding passes.

NewLeaf Travel says its initial scheduling won’t see it fly daily as it plans to focus on leisure and vacation travel, but that could change if there is demand for it.

Hopefully TC et al will shoot down the charges for printed boarding passes.

Ryanair adopted a similar SCAM in Europe a few years back. There were many cases of pax with families or groups being charged hundred of Euros at Check-In just because their cell phones did not allow the emailed or texted boarding passes to be displayed in other countries.

Their Director was on the Exchange last night. One of the most unconvincing people I have ever seen. Presumably MAS thought so too(!)

Let's see, I live within 10 minutes of YXE and my sister within 10 minutes of YHM. Like having first days of Wet Jet back again.

Well, don't write them off just yet. It's not far off the same business model that easyJet started with back in 95 and look where they are today. A paper airline with no AOC using another operators license for flight operations (Air Foyle in EasyJet's case, Flair Air here). Good luck to them we need another low cost operator to make it in Canada.

The 'ancillary' charges on ticket prices are nothing new in our industry these days, it wasn't that long ago the AC where detailing NAVCanada charges on there fare calculations.

Probably another cheap labor
Very low cost mean very low salary and working condition

Perhaps, but EasyJet had much more dense centers of population to serve.

this is just a way to pay for flair's bills with the reduction in oilfield flying. Survive until things pick up again.

NewLeaf Travel & Jim Young

After twelve days Jim Young's NewLeaf Travel flops as a pretend airline: shame on you Jim, Canadians are not that dumb.

New Leaf

The rest of the story:

Flair Air walked.

No lift? No "airline".

The CTA angle is a red herring.
