Upper Canada based AIR CANADA suggests Atlantic Canada is a separate country

From CBC Nova Scotia.

Air Canada ad suggests Atlantic Canada is a separate country - Nova Scotia - CBC News

ex-beagle 25th Mar 2015 23:45

You know what I find hilarious about this faux pas? Air Canada obviously made a mistake and the CBC was quick to point it out (gutter journalism at its best). Air Canada simply thanked the CBC for publicizing the mistake and helping Air Canada achieve better sales.

Good sense of humour on Air Canada's part. Well done!

ps...I see the Air Canada advertisement has been corrected.

Careful there a330pilotcanada, I once pointed out something similar and was chastised to the hills for it  - but you have my vote!

Of course, my kiwi wife calls me a yobbo all the time so I'm not really one to talk ;)

Good Morning +TSRA

I violated my own personal rule of going after the person not the idea. It seemed humorous at the time but it was late at night and I am sure we have all been there.

A Kiwi lady good for you unless if you are telling her the All Blacks are not the best team for football on both sides of the "ditch"!

Thanks for the clue and there is a Speights for you next time we are both near ZQN and it will be my shout!

Yobbo is in need of some information.

Air Canada is based in Montreal/Saint Laurent, Quebec, which was Lower Canada.

Upper Canada existed from 26 December 1791 to 10 February 1841 and generally comprised present-day Southern Ontario. The "upper" prefix in the name reflects its geographic position being closer to the headwaters of the Saint Lawrence River than that of Lower Canada (or present-day Quebec) to the northeast.

Upper Canada included all of modern-day Southern Ontario and all those areas of Northern Ontario in the Pays d'en Haut which had formed part of New France, essentially the watersheds of the Ottawa River or Lakes Huron and Superior (excluding any lands within the watershed of Hudson Bay).

The Province of Lower Canada (French: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the modern-day Province of Quebec, Canada, and the Labrador region of the modern-day Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809).

Note that the country of Canada was formed in 1867. Newfoundland became a Canadian province in 1949.

Typical of most "mainlanders", after all it was Canada which joined Newfoundland, not the other way around, many not from "The Rock" just dont understand this!

evansb 26th Mar 2015 14:10

The ad is technically correct, as the flights are indeed departing from Canada and going to Atlantic Canada. It just doesn't make good copy..

Atlantic Canada is the region of Canada comprising the four provinces located on the Atlantic coast, excluding Quebec: the three Maritime provinces – New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia – and the easternmost province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The population of the four Atlantic provinces in 2011 was about 2,327,650.

The first Premier of Newfoundland, Joey Smallwood, coined the term "Atlantic Canada" when Newfoundland joined the Dominion of Canada in 1949. He believed that it would have been presumptuous for Newfoundland to assume that it could include itself within the existing term "Maritime Provinces", used to describe the cultural similarities shared by New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.

Good Afternoon +TSRA

Although off the thread we have been here five times and each trip is better then the last.

For those who are unaware Speights is a family run brewery out of Dunedin on the South Island sometimes referred to "The Pride of Southland" or as the locals sometimes say "Special People Enjoy It God Hates The Stuff" !

Decades ago I thought B.C meant "bring cash" but now I think B.C. means "basically Chinese".

mates rates 30th Mar 2015 23:32

Does that mean we don't have to pay $25 for our bag as it's an international flight?
