You get to keep it.

cool , thanks , one quick doubt , does the medical certificate details get transferred automatically on to the new booklet , as i would be renewing my category 1 before applying for renewal .

You, like the rest of us, will most likely finish up with two of them in your flight bag, unless you luck in and everything , including type ratings ,happen to be done at such a time that nothing gets missed whilst they are cutting down trees to make this piece of buracratic stupidity! Oh, and I forgot to mention, have fun explaining to the security goons in some places that it is really a pilot lic, most seem to expect to see this stated on the cover as in most of the world, but TC knows better than make things that simple!

One mistake I made was not to place the sticker on top of the temporary written permit. If you do multiple rides, the booklet requires you to place a sticker on top of each hand written one. It's easy to have one sticker and several areas of hand writing that need covering up etc.

The license isn't a passport so they have no interest in you handing in your old one. Regarding the medical, make sure you check that the new booklet contains the actual date for your latest medical. If you renew it around the same time as your medical it may not in which case you will have to hang on to both until your next medical.

This does not apply to your ECG date as that is for information only.
