avc@nada... wtf

Disclaimer: venting to follow...

I've posted on and off on the other site for probably about 10 years...

I've gone through a few periods of forum abstinence and even deleted much of my contribution over the years at one point but I'm now done with it.

Moderators there are out to lunch.

Mostly it was just a nuisance with the exception of one poster who had nothing substantial to add so instead just directed multiple vulgar insults at me and the moderators chose to take down my civilized responses and leave the insults up and allow the offender to remain a prolific contributor.

But most recently I had comments pulled down and several subsequent queries as to why my comments were pulled down also erased and despite asking for a reason, as my comments were light and well within the forum guidelines, mods chose to ignore me.

It has been a last click on my site surfing for years, now I'm done. It's a bullshat site full of people with an apparent pro___ agenda and people without a clue.

Avcanada - a sad joke of a website - Farewell and good riddance I won't be back.

+1.

I stopped contributing to that site a while ago. I only check in every now and then and check out who's hiring. I'm able to gauge how the industry is doing by checking out the job ads.

It's funny. If you happen to post anything negative about one of the operators the moderators work for.....the post is usually taken down ASAP. Or if posts go against some of the moderators personal views....the post is taken down ASAP.

I've noticed it's filled with too many disgruntled instructors or 703/704 guys that can't make the next step.

Sometimes you just gotta say something to get it outta your headspace. I said and I'm done with it and **** them and their site.

Wolfdog 7th Mar 2014 20:26

Posted there for years. Put in more that I got out. Moderators are self centred. Disagree with their point of view....and, well I'm not posting there any more. Total drivel.

Yup, agree with all of you, just happen to know who one of the mods is, struts around a hanger at a Toronto airport blisfully unaware that all around him find him to be a complete dick head, he once placed a job add which is used by an HR company as the best example of how NOT to word an add!

Very much the same at Airliners.net. I got so frustrated with the mods that I started a thread in the Non-Av forum "Mods are high-handed and arbitrary" - which got a number of further posts, some agreeing, some not. So the mods banned me. To which I directed a total flame to their personal addresses (I stored them) and quit. Not going back.

Personally I think Avcanada is much improved. The moderating, while not perfect, has IMO been effective in stopping most threads from degenerating into flame-fests which was why I stopped posting there until things started to change.

There is still too much general whining but I think the flight training forum is now better than any comparable site.

AvCan needs to bring back the equivalent of Jet Blast, I can't remember what it was called over there before it was canned. There is no forum to shoot the sh!t so a lot of the invective has simply been carried into the serious fora.

There does seem to be a lot of w.u.m.s on avcanada. I don't mind heated debate..and I don't mind professional disagreement (which is part of the point of the internet aviation world)......but I do get a bit annoyed when "supposed" professionals come out with the most extreme weird viewpoints you can imagine as though they are the gospel truth or that they should be the norm in the world of aviation.
I have found myself getting more annoyed at Avcanada threads than I do on PPRUNE threads.
I will still post on both though....gotta sift through the s*** to find the gold.

altiplano 10th Mar 2014 14:46

w.u.m.s.??

Married a Canadian 10th Mar 2014 14:49

W.u.m.s = wind up merchants....so I believe.

Wolfdog 10th Mar 2014 18:22

Everybody's entitled to their opinion. Just on avcanada, it has to be the opinion of the moderators, and that's wrong. Most places in Canada allow freedom of speech (as long as it's not hateful, racist or discriminatory) but not on avcanada. It's a forum that actively practices blatant discrimination. This is IMHO only.

For those of you that think the moderators at avcanada in any way effect what is posted here once again are the rules to the site.
The forum rules are as follows:
-any post complained about will be reviewed. This normally will mean that the topic will be pulled and discussed by the moderators.
-any post that contains:
abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented material, discusses physical violence against others, or any other material that may violate any applicable laws may result in the topic being removed and the user banned.

This includes any personal attack, pornography, or nudity.

The easiest way to keep this website friendly for all, is to complain if you notice any of the above appearing in a post. Alert all moderators by reporting posts you feel have violated the forum rules. To learn more on how to report a post visit viewtopic.php?f=49&t=70619 .

You can also send any moderator or myself a private message or email to have a topic reviewed.

In any complaint via a PM or email please include:

-forum where the topic is located
-forum Subject line
-username of the poster
-date of the post
-or the URL/link http://www.........

This forum is caringly moderated. PPRuNe moderators are easy to reach if there is a concern.

CpnCrunch 4th Jun 2016 23:44

Avcanada's moderation is a little overdone, although if it's a choice between over-moderation and constant character assassination and hysterics, I'll take the over-moderation.

Pprune Canada seems to have the best of both worlds (mild moderation and reasonable posters), but doesn't really have much traffic.
