Transfering Co-pilot rating

Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience about what needs to be done in order to get an aircraft type that is listed as p2 on a foreign license onto a Canadian license?

Hope someone has gone through this who can shed some light. I really hope not having to do an entire type rating again.

What the hell is a "P2 Rating"? you either have a type rating or you dont in our world, there are "PCC' and PPC ratings, but a P2?

Soap Box Cowboy 18th Mar 2013 08:55

It's pretty simple. P2 is a rating that allows you to fly the Aircraft as a co-pilot.

Used all over the world.

So now I want to get the ATR put on my Canadian and would like to know the procedure.

From personal experience, NO you can't. Only Captain (P1) is acceptable for transfer and even then I think you need some time on type as pic. If TC sees co-pilot restriction on your license you are sol.

Goc:

What if I did a refresher course and PPC check in Canada?

"Used all over the world?" Not in North America methinks.

I'm not sure. I never asked since they don't have mad dog sims in Canada. You would probably have to go through the entire type rating course. I know Canadian guys with co-pilot limitation on their foreign type rating and some of them went to the US and did a left seat conversion course with their FAA license and then had it transferred to a Canadian license.

conversion

Dear soap

I have some bad news for you as TCCA will not recognize nor transfer a P2 type . The only thing they will convert is a command type where you need to have that on your foriegn licence and 50 hours minimum flown on type as PIC...good luck

There is one regional office that did it for me. Guess which one...

FlightSafety in the states has an accelerated course.

Talked to a lady in Transport Canada and she referred me to CAR 421.40.

She seems to think that this course would comply with the needs for foreign training on an aircraft.

Hoping she is right. Need to get it done as soon as possible and getting my FAA ATPL conversion might take a few months.

Otherwise got to bite the bullet and wait a few months to take the course as all the damn red tape is worked out.

Anyone got a mail address or number they can PM me of someone in Transport Canada who's a little higher up and can give me a more definitive answer on 421.40.

Please let me know if you find any good information on this. I have the CARS book, and its quit a lot of reading material. I have been looking for some help, and it almost seems impossible to find it.
