RMK in Canadian TAFs

In Canadian TAFs you guys have RMKs that seem to refer to cloud above 5000'.
E.G ST8 or SC4AC1.

I've searched on line for a decode but havn't found it yet.:confused::confused:

Any clues?

It is refering to cloud type and the number of octas. Can be very useful information at times. The meto types find it useful in their forecasting affirmation as well.

In your example Stratus 8/8 or Stratocumulus 4/8 Altocirrus 1/8

Aaah Thank you for that. Over here in europe we just make do with "cloud" in octas. But if its CB or towering CU, then they do let us know.

Cheers:):)

TAFs/METARs

604 Guy. Good for you in knowing this stuff. :ok:

Just a little typo:

In your example Stratus 8/8 or Stratocumulus 4/8 Altocirrus 1/8

It's not altocirrus, but altocumulus.

From an ex-met man.

P.S Coonman. It's actually found in the METARs not the TAFs.:)

Ahh, true!

My father, who was an educator for 38 years, would be giving me the raised eye-brow and the reminder to proofread twice! :}
