Mirabel, what's up

Finally got around to seeing Tom Hanks in Terminal.

Started me wondering what exactly is it being used for now.
My folks in Montreal tell me it was going to be sold off. I re-call it was cargo only several years ago. And does/ did DHL use it for their freighter from CVG ???

thanks in advance

Mirabel is used solely has a cargo airport now. I believe Air Transat flew there last flight out in September (I think)

Not sure what the plans are for the terminal, I seem to hear different rumors week by week. Heard a rumor about it being converted into a Casino. Had a good laugh over that one.

Whatever the case it's pretty dark over there on the main apron.

Mirabel is still used by the cargo flights (Fed Ex, UPS etc) since there is a curfiew at Trudeau airport. Also Bombardier has a couple of factories there. There is also a facility that does the heavy maintenance on the Air Force's F-18s. A new aircraft factory was also built there last year that is going to built light aircraft for paradrops I was told. The tower and the fire station are still operating. Only the passenger terminal was closed.

Bell Helicopter also has it's manufacturing facility right next door. I believe most of it's civilian helicopters are produced here.

Are both runways still operational? I'd think that they'd close one of them to cut costs.

CJT/FedEx/UPS/PCL/BAX/Georgian/Morningstar use YMX nights along with Bombardier.

The terminal is down to a shortlist for two tennants. One is some international police training centre for Interpol, the other is something like a giant indoor wave park.

The airport only had one active during the winter and they're in the process of deciding which rwy to keep active, 11/29 or 6/24. There's a bunch or work to be done to each so they're still undecided. The cargo operators would prefer 11/29 but would need the ILS moved. The arrestor cables for the F18 program would also need to be moved over to 11/29...

Last Transat flight was end of October 04. Only All-cargo now and costs are getting out of control. Not sure how they expect to support an airport the size of YMX with 5 flights a day.
