I guess at the end of the day it all depends on where you want to work after getting your ATPL but unless you're planning on going back to India, I cannot emphasize the importance of obtaining a PR.

I'm sorry if I sounded harsh, it's just that I've seen a lot of students who spent tons of money on training only to realize they cannot find a place to work because they do NOT have the legal means to (PR, Visa, etc).

Cheers.
I agree. That is indeed the safest way to go.

Oh sure. I'm pleased. Thanks a lot Takira101.

Very difficult to live in such a climate but, if you can handle arctic weather, go for it. Ontario seems to be between the two. Much colder than Vancouver but less rain. More rain than Manitoba but less cold.
That's great input, thanks. Will look into it.

Hi,

I think one year of skilled work experience after graduation allows a student to apply for a PR. Kindly correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know. When I was planning for a career change to aviation, I decided it'd be best if I got the PR before I started flight training because I never wanted to expose myself to the uncertainty where all the time and money I've invested lies in the hands of my flight school - see how if they don't want you OR you don't like working as an instructor, you have no choice but to go back?

My 2 cents would be to try to get the PR before you log your first hour. I know not a lot of people can do this but it's so much better in terms of downside risk.
