What are the conditions in the ME like versus staying in Canada and flying heavy metal? Obviously taxes are lower but I've heard making the move can be a big lifestyle change.
Are they still paying well above NA averages?

ME lifestyle is pretty good if you're single, quite a bit worse for those coming with a wife and kids.
Pay and upgrade times still far better than Canadian carriers, but hearing that things are quite a bit better in the states, not that it means anything to Canadian pilots who don't have the right to work there.
BTW, my friend who was at cargojet has already left them and is now flying an ancient 737-200 for a mining company.

Middle East is now a risky venture with all the internal politics going on. Things have changed and it really isn't good. No matter what anyone says, the blockade is taking its toll on the Oryx airline and its subsidiaries. There are some bold faces and remarks on the outside but on the inside, things aren't that good...check the thread about new pass restrictions coming into effect.
Years ago, the ME was a reasonable (not good) place to get some big iron time but the working conditions have diminished and life isn't as good as it once was. I know, I worked there for a good number of years.

I left A rather large ME Carrier after many years along with a number of others who lived through the ever degrading conditions. 100 hour months, multiple 10 hour time zones back and forth resulting in fatigue. If you book off you get written ‘cautions’ and the suggestion that you are not doing your 800 to 900 hours per annum. Pay is also sliding. Better in China.
Not good if you have young family that you want to spend time with. Great if you don’t like the old lady. Not a fun company anymore.
