Calgary, Kenn Borek Air

Can anyone recommend a good flight school in Calgary for CPL / IR foreign license conversion and a source of self-study material for the CPAER and INRAT exams?

Does anyone have any recent information about Kenn Borek Air, when are they likely to run the next ground-school and hire new co-pilots?

Cheers

Kenn Borek has a web site. Also try avcanada.ca for further...

Low oil prices have caused some pilot lay-offs in this region.

Cheers

almost all hiring for F/O positions are done thru upgrading dispatchers...

there will be some movement in the next few weeks, so I assume there will be a need for new dispatchers....

timeline from dispatch to flightline varies as need arises...as little as a few months to up to a year...

Oil prices don't affect KBA. virtually none of their work is in the oil patch.

In the 90's I can remember a lot of oil work(crew changes) being done. I remember freezing my nuts off in rainbow lake while the crew did handover. Then a fight broke out in the back, on the ground taxing into ESSO(muni) because one guy slept with the other guys wife. Hahaha

Good memories!

At the time we had a lot of work for the 100/200's.

What happened?

the other operators in YYC innovated and improved their fleet.

KBA offered "2 100s for the same price" as the competitors 1900s....

Had KBA been on the ball 10-15 years ago and invested in fleet renewal/improvement, then it may have retained some of the oil field work...

as it stands today, KBA is solely reliant on the NSF and PCSP contracts..

Ad Hoc charter work has become extinct, and mngmt seems ok with that.

Do not attempt to go direct entry Captain at that company as you will not be able to put your coat on in the morning from all the daggers in your back.
They used to have some of the worst back stabbers in the Industry, small wonder management would rather park the planes than fly them.
One particular nasty piece of work abused the SMS system to write every error made by any Captain he flew with. He sent copies of the SMS reports to T.C. as well.

One of the training captains was the last victim of the worst back stabbing in aviation I have ever seen.

Stay away ,as you cannot protect yourself from some of the nasty lies spread by some of the backstabbers.

Not sure about "back stabbing".

I have yet to see any but then again I have a thick skin....

I can only think of one rat in the group and he is well known and currently experiencing karma.

Borek has 99 problems but "back stabbing" ain't one of them.....
