Fees or bribes, which are better?

Being snowed in on Vancouver Island with nothing better to do I thought I would share my idle thoughts the people who surf this forum.

If you were going to attempt to get approval to start a business or perform some service in an existing business which would you prefer, dealing with your own government offices and their fee system or dealing one on one with the bureaucrats in most African countries with their bribe system?

Oh... for me it is no contest...give me an African bureaucrat any day.

Bribes of course Chuck.

Just because you pay your fee doesn't mean you are going to get what you want or get it in a timely fashion... but with bribes the only limitations are how much money you have and what you have the guts to ask for.

In my opinion a fee is a form of extortion by a Government bureaucracy that has expanded to a size where all the taxes paid by the working sector of that society no longer is enough to feed the expanded parasite that is feeding off the working sector of the country.

A " a timely fashion " to a government parasite is determined by how many times they have to stall you to keep their paper work shell game going to keep the parasites looking like they are doing something.

As the parasite sector becomes bigger and bigger the working sector becomes smaller and smaller resulting in " a timely fashion " becoming longer and longer.

You poor Canadians who still have to deal with the parasites are having a harder and harder time finding enough money to feed your families after you have fed your parasites.

but with bribes the only limitations are how much money you have and what you have the guts to ask for.
Actually the way it works the bribe system like the tax / fee system has an amount that is fairly well known for the permission requested.....

......where the bribe system really beats tax / fee system is " timely fashion " is determined by how fast you hand over the cash.

A few years back we spent some time in one of the "Great African Nations", we were actually given a sheet of paper which listed the amount of the expected bribes! But we had the last laugh ,having come prepared with wads of Canadian Tire money, Ive been told that it is still in circulation, by the way the guy on the bills we said was Sir John A , I think he would have enjoyed the joke! {Dont think I should go back there somehow}
