I am not cabin crew but I hope you will allow me to post on your forum.
In the 1980s I was a pilot for the Dubai Air Wing which is the ruler's flight. This was before Dubai became almost the real-life 'Disneyland' that it now seeks to be and before the creation of Emirates Airline. My conditions were good and I did not live in fear of my job.
It must now be awful living and working in the apparent conditions that EK imposes. The staff naturally are afraid that for the slightest infringement of the rules (which are imposed by incompetent managers) they will be fired which of course entails not only the loss of income but the loss of housing and expulsion from Dubai.
In addition to this, the cabin crew seem to be made to work to the maximum hours that civil aviation law allows for a very low salary.
I am sure many people have seen the photos of EK cabin crew sleeping on the floor of a JFK airport jetway for six hours!
I notice that for the last financial year EK profits are down by 70% so maybe something will change!

There will always be fresh meat for the ME3. If you compare what they could make in their home countries with what they can make working for these lovely people, the choice becomes very simple. For many, the terms and conditions will also be very attractive and the ME3 might even appear to be benevolent. It’s us “soft” western types who have a problem with intimidating and bullying bosses, government oversight and accident investigation in the hands of the same group of people who run the airline, prudish morals from the Middle Ages governing your personal life and foul, ignorant and rapacious line managers controlling your working life. So for many this will be be marvellous experience and for others accepting a contract there might be their first big mistake of their lives. For me, I believe I know what lays beneath the thin layer of gilt which is why I never applied to join. Also because I despise their values will not actively contribute anything to their success.

Piltdown, a good synopsis of what ME flying had become. Treat it with great caution.

I'm surprised this hasn't yet found its way into PPRuNe..

Emirates FA dies after fall at Entebbe

Even on the small amount of information available, there are many very disturbing aspects to this case.
