Australian 2nd Interview

I have a second interview with Australian 5th of July. Has anyone heard what to expect in this interview ? I know its a bit early but maybe someone has heard something - all help needed and appreciated !

cino2go 24th June 2002 11:04

Australian - Interviews start in Early July.. So you should have an idea once the first people have been thru. You should expect it to be similar to qantas, but not exactly the same.

Australian group interview session was very different to Qantas style of interviews

Good Luck:)

Seminar Style

Like QF does with our seminar style. We use the same recruitment team. Have some things ready to use for examples of your good service and how you've supplied excellent service in the past. Get ready for some problems with Asian language customers and how you will overcome them.

cino2go 1st July 2002 12:16

Australian first interview went for 6-7 hours all up.
Seminar and Group activities.. and then the 400 question psych paper.

Group Interviews are next.. Good luck everyone :D

AustralianStyle 1st July 2002 23:09

I spoke to my QF friend but unfortunately said he had no info. He said that the recruitment section is not 'in-house' with QF but Im sure examples of good service and over coming problems will be what they are after. Good luck all !

cino2go 6th July 2002 08:37

As Per Sally's comment..

Interviews very very fair -- Relaxed and Professional.

Not like Qantas at all :D

Received letter from Australian on Tuesday after 2nd interview last Friday, inviting me to attend medical shortly so keep your eyes on the mail.

Good Luck All

Congras on being given the opportunity to do the medical, it is a big achievement. You should be proud of yourself, cause the panel interview is where they cut, alot of the applicants. One of my friends made it through to the second interview, and he is real nervous, i guess its in gods hands now. I hope he gets through cause i know he would make a great Flight Attendant. Wishing you all the very best, let us now how you go. Best wishes
Diego :)

Maradona

Thanks Maradona for the best wishes.Have only ever been to 2 interviews in my life. One for Ansett when I was 19 and this. It is reassuring 18 years later that I can still cut it. Eighteen years ago it was unheard of getting a job as a flight attendant at 37. How times have changed and thank goodness that interview candidates can be recognized for skill and ability and not just age.

Is ther a website address for Australian Airlines?.
If so could someone post it.

goldcoast fa 8th July 2002 21:48

www.australianairlines.com.au

Only last week they had a comprehensive employment site for start-up recruitment but it seems that they have their 180 flight attendants as it has changed to the standard "no further recruitment".

Rumour has it though there will be further opportunities next year so ' watch that space'

Hello.. Medical papers arrived in the mail on Wednesday 10/7.
Good luck everyone :)

Airtart 16th July 2002 00:25

I know that medical papers were posted out after about 4-5 days...... however.......has anyone recieved a 'no' letter or any other letter from Australian ?

Still waiting !!!! It's been almost two weeks since my interview, and I admit thats not a good sign to say the least !!

But I would like to get the 'official' no thanks over and done with.
(I have my bottle of vodka on ice ready to go ! )
Any info out there ???

notsovapid 19th July 2002 06:54

Interesting to hear that some people perceived the AA interviews were more relaxed than the QF ones, as I have also heard the exact opposite from some of the candidates.
Congratulations to those who were successful! I think all letters are out now so at least the suspense is over.
Some food for thought now;

17% of all successful applicants were residents of Cairns/FNQ.
So far as I can ascertain, all ex AWAS staff involved with the recent QF charters who applied to AA were successful.
One successful applicant was known to be some months pregnant when offered a job and will be unable to fly due to health reasons when services commence.

It will be fascinating to see who now takes up their offers to relocate to Cairns since, even as I write, MAM (lurved the "French" influence to the name Maurice on the tape btw :D, very sophisticated for a re-invented socialist ) is offering positions to many of the successful candidates.

To those who didn't succeed, my commiserations. Disappointing I know but it is not a reflection of your unsuitability for the flight attendant role. Perhaps more a reflection of the process or that your network of contacts wasn't as extensive as others. Remember that there will be a Southern base opening when the next phase of the airline's growth kicks in in 2003. Keep trying and good luck.

Medicals and No's

Keep your chin up.
They did start sending the NO letters out on Tuesday this week :(
Even as late as Yesterday (Thursday 18/7) people got medicals in the mail.

Good luck to all :D

FloatJockey 19th July 2002 12:47

OK, I officially failed again.............
At least they have been nice till the end: they encourage me to reapply as soon as they advertise again. Better than "get lost for six to twelve months before showing us your face again, you loser"! :D

Congrats to the ones that made it! Don't leave PpruNe now that you got the job: many of us need your advice and help!

The others... well, I'm with you... together better than alone... let's drink over it for a night or two and we'll get over it!!

I also apologize with Maradona for not answering his topic earlier (a topic just for me, wu-huu! I'm famous! As well as broke and unemployed! Ugh!). Reason being: I relocated with Mr. FloatJockey to the north of New South Wales (ex-Impulse routes...) and the PC was in a box... sorry!).

Btw, 2 weeks ago I called MAM for Qantas domestic, got my registration number, then called Qantas to check for my visa (sub-class 820 spouse visa, first year) and I got told "Sorry, you need to be a permanent resident to allow you travelling from/to Australia, so you cannot participate, see you in two years, when you become permanent resident". My point is: if the job is DOMESTIC, what is the problem with having 2 years temporary residency??? I would not go outside the country for work anyway!!  Who knows...

Gotta read 3 weeks of PPruNe topics, I'd better go!

Mrs. FloatJockey (The "Loser")

goldcoast fa 20th July 2002 03:42

Bad Luck Floatjockey

Keep on trying though!

I haven't heard officially yet since medical but I know one thing thing that gave me an advantage so far was studying Japanese. I set my sights on Australian back in January and picked up a Japanese book for the first time then. I studied full time for 6 months and managed to get a level 3 in the UNSW test. It wasn't the required level 4 but I am sure it helped.

So nobody despair. It is not that hard but with the right dedication and focus if I could get it then anyone could.

Has anyone out there been given the official nod yet. I think they stated that postions would be offered in August. Fingers crossed soon

flightbunny 20th July 2002 04:01

:) hi mrs fj,

i'm sorry to hear that australian did not give u a job...but please don't take heart..you'll get a job as an f/a soon enough..as u said to me when i did not get dj...'they don't want u they don't deserve u'..keep ur chin up ur time will soon come...re apply when they advertise again...

all the best for ur move up north..

flightbunny..:)

Goldcoast FA

I think it's fantastic that you got a Level 3 in Japanese in just 6 months!! I've been studying German and am hoping to get a level 4 when I do the test. I think I hover between a 3 and 4 level so will just have to see how I go on the day.

All the best of luck to you!

Cheers:)
