To ALL UAE cabin crew

As an expat and someone who works hard to "give back" to the community where I live, I am hoping you can all join me in this quest:

In the next month, I would like to ask that any and all flight deck and cabin crew members in the UAE, begin collecting any hotel soaps, shampoos, sew kits, tissues, toothpaste, deodorants, BOTTLED WATER etc. I want to create goody bags for the laborers in the area. I would like to collect, create the bags and distribute as many as humanly possible during Ramadan. This is our chance to give back to those who, without their work, none of us would be here.

We may not all agree on life here but I'll tell ya one thing, our lives are 1,000 times better than theirs and what small amount they can receive in these bags will make a huge difference on them financially. I'm sure that some of the airlines such as EK have projects where donations and fund raising events are ongoing, but I also know that the above items which are no cost to us and often collected or left, could be given directly to these men.

If any of your wives/husbands or significant others are interested in assisting with this, I certainly welcome the help and look forward to beginning this aviation families outreach project. It would be great to have a couple of central pick up locations for a weekly or bi weekly pick up in areas such as DSO, JBR or HQ for each airline or anywhere you guys deem fit.

If this becomes successful enough during Ramadan, I will make this a quarterly or if able to, a monthly project. If anyone reading this has experience in something like this and would be interested in making it larger scale or assist in organizing it, please drop me a PM. If you're interested in being a company rep/collector to collect the items from all your airline's crew (both cabin and flight deck) or donating other items such as dry goods etc.. I can begin a donation schedule to include pick up times and locations.

Thanks,
SPW

I no longer work for EK but just wanted top say what an incredible and amazing thing you are doing. Absolute respect! I hope that the venture turns out to be the huge success it deserves to be!

IFFF,

Etihad, Emirates, Fly Dubai etc. in this case, pay the hotel bills and so what does it matter to the 'consumer' that the rates go up a little? If you had seen the conditions that the UAE provide for the subcontinent work force, you'd feel differently. Have a heart man...

SPW, you're doing a great thing!

I fly for free!!!!!!!! What Garbage!!!!You obviosly aint ever worked in a hotel. It doesn't work like that.House keeping do not keep track of these items. Most of the little toiletries are supplied FREE to large hotel chains,as promotion items.
Whether you use em or not makes no difference to the hotel management.
For Gods Sake!!!
I think thats a brilliant idea.Copy paste it to Facebewk;)
:D

Restoreth my faith

TY guys for the kudos. I am glad to see the support and what is most important is the amount of caring from those who truly understand the need. As with any other thread on this forum, there will be those who don't support an idea, a statement or advice. That is their choice and I respect that. However, this is NOT about theft from a hotel. These items are placed there to be used. We are talking about items that probably amount up to 25 cents. If anyone feels this is going to cause hotel rates to skyrocket resulting in higher cost to the airlines with an end result in a cut in pay, dear Lord, stick a dirham in an envelope and I'll collect it :)

btw, which fb pages ?

I would like to commend your charitable ideas and would encourage your generosity to the needy souls who will be doing their very best to resist all temptation during fasting, reflection and worship of their God from the 20July for 30 long days.

May the Lord richly bless you.

All the best and god bless you all

Bravo!!!

As one who no longer has the 'luxury' of bringing the unused or partially used hotel amnenities home with me, I applaude your (hopefully successful) actions.

For sure, the cost of these items are built into the price of the room (the negative post by IFFF has been removed, but can somewhat ascertain its drift) by each and every hotel. Just a note though -for those who may be overzealous -towels, bathrobes, sheets, televisions and lamps are most likely not 'included' in the price.

Way to go M! Seriously. Thanks from my heart - hope it works. :D

What a brilliant idea. Can I suggest you contact airport services and ask them if you can have all the liquids they confiscate at security? (Unless they are already divvied up amongst the needy).

L'aviateur 15th July 2011 07:54

Having worked in the hotel industry, I can without a doubt say that the toiletries, combs and complimentary water are part of the package, factored into the price, and are expected to be used.

I think this is a great idea. Good luck

A better suggestion should be to purchase rather than to take. My company will end my contract if I take. Please do not take but ask to have before you may take. Thank you

To all the naysayers above

This is a truly excellent idea. It can (and will) do so much for those who need it the most.

Please, don't quibble over pettifogging excuses: JUST GIVE!

gals used to grab the soap/shampoo in my past couple airlines and take the loot to half way houses...
they were always surprised by the reception they had..
