Crew sighing...

This is not meant to slag off crew, particulary not the airline in question. It probably happens in most airlines.

On a previous trip between BOM and LHR with BA, there was a particular cabin crew member that kept sighing throughout the entire flight, not to mention during the safety briefing, when he also seemed more interested in either staring out the window or down the floor.

Also during take off and landing, when you are suppose to repeat your door drill and keep an eye into the cabin (not trying to teach a lesson here), he seemed more interested in playing with his fingers and looking down the floor. I saw this as I almost sat next to him at door 5L.

Most people do have good and bad days. That's not the issue here. But, it doesn't give a very good impression and could also perhaps be a safety issue?

Is this a wind up?

seasick 17th October 2008 18:58

Probably because most complaints seem to be about the airline food, the IFE and the seats, I thought for a change of the attitude of the crew. As I wrote perhaps he was having a bad day, which we all do occassionally. Still, if you are in the service business, perhaps you have to pull yourself together!

YoDawg, what's a typical passenger from Bombay like? Sounds pretty prejudiced of you to make such a comment.

Virginia, a wind up? No!

because the pax are a f*****g nightmare who don't know how to conduct themselves in public. NIGHTMARE by definition is spending 10 hours in a metal tube with those NIGHTMARE PAX!!!

seasick 17th October 2008 19:43

So, the answer as to why he was sighing so much and gave the appearance he didn't want to be there was most likely because the destination? ;)

apaddyinuk 17th October 2008 19:51

When I look down at my roster and see any Indian services on it I dont just sigh, I let out a cry of agony!!!

Passengers on those routes are lovely in their own way but damn are they hard work? They just dont make shoes comfortable enough to walk to bombay!

MrWomble 17th October 2008 20:10

You can't expect all the crew to be 100% perfect, however the BA crew who are good are 110% good to make up for it. Be glad it was only one member, on other airlines its most of the crew like that :O

hamiltonyhm 17th October 2008 21:41

Whatever next ? Cabin Crew were breathing!!! get a life

apaddyinuk 18th October 2008 01:47

You didnt get the last memo then?

We are only to breath once every 2 minutes in order to conserve energy!

If you think the odd BA cc member is behaving as if they have had a bad day, you should nave travelled economy, with Pan Am. Crew sighing? Be lucky if there was a crew (oap) sighting.:}

Sighing Audit

Just thought I'd drop by and check the Cabin Crew forum on behalf of the 'Sighing Police' to make sure no one is sighing.

All looks good to me, I'll be off then.

I'll be back next week to do an audit on yawning. You have been warned.

topdog1 18th October 2008 08:47

Get a life :ugh:

crewmeal 18th October 2008 10:39

Also during take off and landing, when you are suppose to repeat your door drill
Cabin crew are professional and responsible. When allocated a door position for take off and landing they will know what to do in an emergency situation. Do you expect them to sit there and chant drills like the Koran? Have you ever thought that Crew look out of the window to check everything is OK?

seasick I suggest if you have to make an issue complain through the proper channels instead of trying wind people up on forums with such stupid comments.

This thread is a nonstarter I suggest you get a life

Sensitive issue.

How would that be a safety issue? If you were genuinely concerned about safety, would it not be prudent to talk the matter over with the Senior Cabin Crew member? If that brings forth little joy, write to the company? Or even write to the CAA. The address is below:

Civil Aviation Authority
CAA House
45-59 Kingsway
London
WC2B 6TE
T: 020 7379 7311

They are very helpful people and will investigate any breach of safety reported to them. Much more effective than posting on a forum, don't you think?

Like I say, I wonder at your motivation. Are you really concerned about safety?

Please feel free to explain, I'm all ears.

Just my 2 cents, but posting on this forum like Seasick did to get some info and opinions is wiser than writing to BA to complain about that steward who would probably have been in trouble afterwards.

dont overfil 19th October 2008 12:07

How about some some input from an AME?

I always thought that sighing and yawning could be a sign of oxygen deprivation.
DO.

Coppelia 19th October 2008 12:14

In that case, nothing would have prevented that steward from doing a little turn in the F/D and put the QD Mask on to get some oxygen and stop sighing.

Dan Air 87 19th October 2008 13:44

I am SLF and when I get an India business trip I don't sigh. I don't moan. In fact I let out a yell of delight! Why-cos it means that I haven't got a Lagos or PHC. It also means that I can fly BA or Jet and not on VS or VK.

rogerk 19th October 2008 13:51

At least he wasn't farting !!!
