ID Cards
ID Cards
Airside workers at UK airports are already subject to stringent security checks in order to obtain identity passes to gain airside access at UK Airports. Air Traffic Controllers, Pilots, Cabin Crew etc are to be forced to carry the proposed new voluntary National ID Card, on pain of losing their jobs. The National ID Card will not be compatible with existing Airport Security systems (which vary from Airport to Airport) and will not replace the existing ID passes carried by airside workers at UK Airports. The forced introduction of what is allegedly a voluntary scheme will do nothing to prevent terrorist attacks or reduce illegal immigration. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/airsideid/ I was hoping to do this as a poll but for whatever reason I can't. Mods if you can help me out and keep this as a sticky I'd be grateful, this is an important issue and shouldn't be moved to Jet Blast. 1. I'm completely in favour of the introduction of the ID Cards for Airside staff 2. I object to the introduction of the ID Card for Airside workers and will sign the petition 3. I'm undecided |

There, now you have a poll :)

Nice one, flyblue!
This issue seems to have been sidelined elsewhere on pprune.... I, as an ATCO, am against them. Signed the petition some time ago, and have managed to persuade others to do so too. I also emailed my local MP who has since forwarded my concerns on to David Davis. |
National ID card
Whilst it will never be accepted as a replacement for a passport, I would have no objection if:
It replaced the just plain stupid CRC application, to what is a country that voted for devolution! Then to reduce costs it is outsorced further? I proved my identity at the Passport Office, when it was the Passport Office and may board an aircraft, anywhere in the world with a valid ticket............ I trust this Government with nothing, let alone all my personal details to be forwarded on CD to wherever the postman delivers it! What compensation is on offer for, at best 'Identity theft'? Having filed in a CRC aplication, seems anyone can apply for credit in my name, any victims? |
Thanks flyeblue, you're a treasure.
