what's the basic like ?

I'm still considering my career change - whats the basic wage like in the UK (and elsewhere) ?

Basic seems to be around £8k but allowances and all that good airline stuff bringing a starting salary to around £14-16k. Senior folks in my firm earn around £50k, but they have been around since the Stratocruiser days.
