Hello all,

I have appied to BA as fa at Birmingham. I notice that you are required to study certain a/c. Could somebody be kind enough to tell me what exactly do you have to learn.

Hi 777 - correct me if I'm wrong - I thought You wanted to pursue a pilot career? Being an fa for a while is ok - but don't wait too long - You never know when tings are changing again!

The job i'm going for is only a six month contract and will obviously provide me with invaluable insght into BA as well as a closer working relationship with the flight crew.

777 - just a little word of advise. I remember that a company as SAS, years back were very hesitant, when it came to hiring "former own fa's" as cockpit crew for their airline. Don't know how it is today, and certainly not how it is with BA neither!

You are sooooo damn right there too !

The outfit I work for thinks like that too. Me? I just decided to go to the States and finish off the ATPL there and try to work for a US carrier. Less resistance to girls on the flight deck there too !

From reading your post, I believe you got to the final stage of BA. I should think you know everything you need to know about airplanes now. I went for a VirginFA interview and we were asked to distinguish a 747 from an A320...you should also be conversant with the different manufacturers..BA might be different though..dont quote me ...I have a BA FA who is a friend ..check your mail.

Hey 777....I am thinking about doing the same thing as you, joing as a FA while pursuing a career as a pilot. Are you actually a pilot at the moment or not?

777 - Good luck with the interviews.

A while back in about 1994 when BA had alot of pilot CEP's who could get flight deck jobs due to the cut backs, alot of them actually worked as Cabin Crew for a few years. Most seem to have enjoyed it. I think you'd find that BA have no prejudice against former C/crew. Indeed several ex-C/C are now pilots for BA.

Most of the BA guys at Brum are very decent and if they know you are interested in a pilot job we be happy to talk to you about it and offer the jumpseat for an insight into what goes on.

C/C interviews don't think you'll find you need a great deal of technical knowledge about a/c - knowing what they look like may be a bonus! - However, if you have previously worked in aviation then they may expect you to know a little more. Also be aware that they are going to employ you as C/c and NOT as a pilot. Therefore don't talk to much about the technical side and concentrate on the customers, service etc. If you talk too much about the piloting side they will get the impression that you are only doing c/c as a stop gap and are not that committed - does not look good !
