Hey Guys,
Sent my CV off for consideration for the Aer Lingus Temp job out of Dublin. I was wondering, as I'm English and presently live in England do you think this will be a problem when taking into consideration the amount of Irish people who must be applying?
Just curious to know.

Doubt it would be a problem, there are currently all kinds of nationalities at EI including some of your fellow countrymen. As far as I know it's an 11 month contract, money is average and you have occasional overnights in London. You could do a lot worse than EI.

Might be worth a call to follow up your CV as the HR crew don't move very quickly :rolleyes:

Sorry about that! EI is the IATA code for Aer Lingus. Similarly FR is the code for Ryanair etc. Lots more info on airline codes and callsigns at http://www.airlinecodes.co.uk/

Plus you get to live in Dublin too which is always fun. And to be honest, not as expensive as london when you try to live on a budget!

I have never been to Dublin but I know its meant to be a great city. I emailed recruitment yesterday to see if they had received my CV but as yet no responce. Maybe I wont get an interview,:{ never mind.

Crewboy, take it from someone who started his career with Aer Lingus (back in the good old days when the service was great and the company made massive losses!!!) and even did a quick stint in its recruitment department...RING THEM!!! They love people who take the initiative to actually call the company by phone. The airline has barely heard of email internally so dont expect a reply to an email. The fact that you would be calling from the UK may mean even more stars next to your name!!!

Ok, will defo do that tomorrow morning. My friends tell me that Dublin is a cool city with great nightlife. Hope I might get to sample it one day, even staying over 1 night for an interview would be cool.

The interview will be at EI head office at the airport and there are a few hotels immediately adjacent to it (Clarion and Great Southern) however they are airport hotels. If you are successful at the interview they will send you for a medical in a town called Malahide not far from the airport (and subsequently my home town) which is really nice and pretty by the seaside and with a good hotel there called the Grand. You can catch a bus to the airport for about €2. You can also get the train from Malahide into the city center in about 20 minutes so its a nice little place to base yourself. And if your feeling really adventurous, just further along the coast road from the Grand (About 3 minutes in a taxi) is a dodgy nightclub called tomangoes where all the aer lingus heads hang out cos it gives an airline discount!! :}

Wow, that brings back memories from when Raphy Burke saw fit to tell us what radio we could listen to, closed down the pirate stations, and gave new broadcasting licences to all his mates...
"Sunshine 101FM and 539m medium wave, broadcasting from the Sands hotel with Tomangoes, where the gang goes!"

I gather the last twenty minutes of Sunshine radio, complete with blow by blow commentary by the owner, Robbie Robinson, of the police breaking in and confiscating the transmitters is still broadcast weekly on some Dublin pirate stations.

Anyway back on track...

We called it 'Joe Mango's', or 'Joe Manky's', or even "Tomangang, where the gang bang!" It was heaving cattle market of dump of a place when I lived nearby, and I gather it's no better now. I can't say I ever enjoyed any time spent in there. I don't like my home city much but there are much better ways to spend a drunken evening of debauchery than in that dive.

Do EI have crew based out of ORK is it this something else I've managed to misunderstand? ;)

EI have an existing crew base in Cork, Limerick and a small base at LHR.
If you check the EI website, they are currently recruiting for the Cork base.

I notice (as with every other airline) its fixed term - any idea with the likelihood of positions being available after said contract is up?

The Big T -- the dodgiest night club in town -- Quite funny as the the boucners were baggage handlers for EI -- well in my day they were.....

How long is the training??? I applied by email, and I went over to the head office and gave my CV, but havent heard anything! ShouldI call them? I didnt want to call them, because I applied for check-in before, and they called me!
